Indeed. That's my fault and I apologize. When I made the changes back in
April I got the quantities wrong. Thank you for catching this error.

I would still like to see some evidence and have that evidence preserved for
those who examine this change in the future. I've looked at several scans
of catalogs from the time period and don't see the red dot in any of the
photos.
Just to be clear: I don't have any doubt that you know what you're talking
about. I'd just like to see changes to these older sets thoroughly documented.

|
Of course
On the right hand side of the My Inventory page there are several options to
choose from, but one that is missing is colour. When I want to see how many dark
green 1 x 2 bricks I have I have to put in 3004 and look at hundreds to find
the dark green, rather than just choosing dark green 3004. You can do this if
you use the PCC but who know those off the top of their head.
|
You can get that info from the catalog page, make sure the color info tab is
clicked.
https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=3004&idColor=10#T=C&C=10
|
Thanks but we already knew that and it isn't what we want. When you search
your inventory you should be able to do the same as you can when you are within
your store. Choose a part no and a condition and a colour. The only way this
can be done currently is via a PCC and a condition filter.
Hope I have now made that clearer.
|
The issue is that although the search option is labeled "Catalog Name and Number"
it is actually Catalog Name OR Number." BL has the part numbers and part names
in separate fields and it does not search them both at once. If you include a
part number in the search terms it defaults to a part number search and ignores
the other keywords.
So if you search for [3004 dark green] it only searcesh on 3004 and ignores the
"dark green," so it shows you all your 3004s.
To search by color and part, do not search on the part number but use
the part name. Try searching your inventory with "any part of field" selected
for [dark green 1x2 brick] and you should get the results you expect.
|
That does work your Goatleg knowledge of how it works is useful. Having said
that not many people would be aware of that and it still would be easier to do
it the way we suggested.
At the end of the day it is not a significant programming change to alter the
query by form using colour as a 'where' statement, especially if there
are separate fields in the database.
|
Well the color information is actually in two places - in the color field as
well as in the name - and like the part number search, it will default to searching
the color field if you search only for a color name. Try an inventory keyword
search for [dark green] and you'll get nothing, because it tries to do a
color search but the color field is not included in the query.
I assume the somewhat crippled nature of the search function was meant to reduce
the load and improve response time on Bricklink's original servers. Searching
three fields at once was maybe more than it could handle in a reasonable amount
of time. Capabilities have advanced considerably.
|
Yes things have moved on and now with the announcement from Brickworld it looks
like it doesn't matter anyway cause we will be another Amazon if the CEO
has his way. If we wanted to sell on Amazon we would open on Amazon. (It is a
hopeless site anyway with excessive fees, the worst customer service on record
and despite his billions prone to dramatic and total flop decisions). He got
some right after the disastorous start which made him very wealthy - now he dabbles,
pays his employees peanuts and has 10 recent flops with the tangent decisions
he has made - but at least he can afford them.

We seem to be having a two person dialogue on this but, sadly that is what happens
to lots of suggestions, both good and bad.
Currently when you go to the My Inventory page, you see below:
What we would like to see is a sub-total line entered below each major category
e.g. sets; parts, minfigures etc. showing the totals for lots, items and value
and then at the bottom of this we would like a summary which would read something
like this (Not real figures, of course)
On the summary you might want to see the % breakdown on lots, items or value
so this should be 'choosable'
It took ma few minutes to do that so you could image how long it would really
take up if you had to constantly add up numbers. All of which computers are here
for.

I wonder why I can't set a filter on QTY for the Price Guide. I wonder how
relevant is that when I seek for 200 bricks (3001 black) that there is someone
who is selling 1 piece for HUF 9.69 when I actually can only buy from the guy
sells for HUF 43.74 due to lot size.
Not to mention the shipping costs...

I inventoried it from sealed set contents and I assure you that in my set was
b version of yellow 4085, but I know it looks strange because this part was d
version in DBG color in the same set.
Let the inventory administrator judge this case

It's easy to miss, isn't it? I had to look through 6278 once and 6292
twice before I found it. The third part (actually, the first) is added in step

| I see it, not the implementation I meant but it's a start, just need them
all on the same set page, rather than each build having its own page meaning
a set split over X amount of pages, that is unless the parent set (ie the actual
set number) hyperlinks to each individual page with a new tab (similar to the
Instructions tab) titled "Builds" or similar.
If it needs community manpower to split out each build then I'd get onboard
with it.

Thanks but we already knew that and it isn't what we want. When you search
your inventory you should be able to do the same as you can when you are within
your store. Choose a part no and a condition and a colour. The only way this
can be done currently is via a PCC and a condition filter.
Hope I have now made that clearer.

One more thing. Everyone knows that behind Bricklink there is a SQL database.
The My inventory page is a query by form (in effect) - that means there is little
if any programming to add the colour filter and writing the code to provide sub
totals and a summary might take half an hour, at most. They already provide a
summary at the bottom of each inventory and although that should be improved
(similar to what Brickset provide) at least the idea exists somewhere.
So many little things that could make the site more helpful.
These are simple things which would make it easier for store owners, most of
whom do these types of things offline because they are not available through
the site. Part of sellers tools ? I don't believe anyone knows as these have
yet to be defined. Perhaps that will be in the new roadmap announcement being
made at Brickworld.

On the sub totals when you see your inventory by category it is a simple list
broken by Sets, Parts etc. Rather than having to add up all the totals of lots,
items and value manually, it would be better if they were sub totalled so at
a glance I could see how many of each mainline category we have at any time.
Hoppe that makes it clearer if not let me know and I will put together some screen
shots of how we think it should look for easier use.
|
See below two very crude attachments - the first shows where we would like the
colour filter and the 2nd shows a small cut-out of the left hand side of the
MY inventory screen where your inventory is shown by category. We would like
subtotals after each main break e.g. sets, parts, minifigures, etc.
A summary at the bottom would be nice so at a glance you can see how your inventory
is broken down e.g.
Lots Items Value % of total
Sets xxxx xxxx xxxx
Parts xxxx xxxx xxxx
Minfigures xxxx xxxx xxxx
Again, at a glance one could tell a good deal more about your inventory from
this simple calculation.

Quiz: in each photo, what type the train weights are?
In Inventories Requests, SezaR writes:
| Actually I know one MISB 7735 that is still for sale on Ebay. The problem is
that I have asked the seller special photos few times using various accounts.
If I request him another photo of the trian weights, he would easily suspect
something is wrong and then would likely call the police Interpol!
I know that his copy comes with motor type 4 (1989-90) and special curved conducting
rails 2931a (1988-90). We cannot read the Lego logos in any stud but we can see
that there is no difference in the way they appear in the photo. So they should
be of type 2. (photos 7-8)
I took many photos of my train weights.(photos 1-6) The two left ones are of
type 1 and the two right ones of type 2. Note that
1) In each photo, either I changed the angle of camera or the angle of my desk
lamp.
2) These are ALL photos I took. I changed zoomed them in and then resized them.
I think they are very convincing, specially the 6th one.
3) The Lego logo cannot be distinguished in my photos neither.
P.S. Did Dan considere a special prize (like the whole new Lego sets released
in one year) for the most technical (aka the most weird) support?

Unless, that is, you are the original owner of the used set, you have owned it
since it was brand new from a sealed box, and you are very confident that it
has not been modified or mixed with other sets.

are taken from pages 21-23.
https://worldbricks.com/en/catalog-year/1980/catalogs-1988/1988-lego-catalog-2-en-fr-nl.html
In Inventories Requests, SezaR writes:
| Concerning the hinges, I believe:
1) the inventory of the vintage trains were never made by checking a sealed set
as all the mistakes or incompleteness are those not found on instructions or
box. So I believe the hinges with solid stud was not verified to be included
in a copy of this set.
2) The motor is of type 3 dated 45 4 (45th week in 1984). This set is from 1985-90
so this copy should be from the first production run of this set.
Other parts included in this MISB set confirm this, for example the part
does not have reinforcements. In 1985 this part was improved and reinforcements
were added under the notches. Also
So in this first production run, the hinges are already of hollow studs.
3) As we don't have any proof that the old variants of hinges came in any
release, I requested to delete them.
More conservative option is to change them to alternate parts. Even if the old
variants of hinges were included, that would be in less than 1% copies of this
set so it makes sense to change them to alternate.
In the photos we can see most hinges. The owner of this set checked and confirmed
that all hinges were of hollow studs.

This part has never before been included in a set as an extra, but I was willing

It would also be a good idea to incorporate the ability to update selected inventory
items into a superlot.
In addition, whilst you can use external tools to work on pricing it would be
far better if that type of tool existed on the MY Inventory page.
We are aware there has been discussion over sellers tools since 2013, and these
things may or may not be in those new tools, however it is now 5 years since
that discussion began and to date, I am not sure anyone is aware of what may

We are led to believe that Admin_Jaclyn is project managing the sellers tools

difficult to find.
I have none from 1989, 1 from 1990, and 1 from 1991. The '90 and '91
catalogs which I have only show the TC Logo line and associated items.

I appreciate the time taken to inform the requesters why their submissions are
rejected. This is very helpfully, especially for many new submitters -- many
of whom in the past were previously clueless as to why their requests were rejected
without any sort of explanation whatsoever (and many times probably caused them
to be discouraged to submit anything ever again).

| Currently if you look at a set with more than 1 build (60052 for example) you
are greeted with the parts list arranged by part type and colour, for the whole
set.
What I would love to see is this done for each individual build in a set , for
example;
all parts required for this, arranged as usual but given its own heading (Current
ones are for plates, bricks, supplemental etc I believe?
- Locomotive
- Wire Drum Car
- Pallet Car
- Cattle Car
- Fork Lift
- Truck
- Gantry Crane/Office
This would allow users to quickly populate wanted lists for specific aspects
from sets, I don't believe the Part-Out function would do this (although
it did answer my other request).

I am sure many things work against me in my life outside BL and also inside BL.
I am not sure how this one would? I am not sure what consequences this mistake
can have against me? Have you been considering to give me a prize/salary/...
and now, I don't deserve it any more?
The inventory change request was made two days ago. At the time I checked the
parts 3001, 3002 and 3003 and submitted the inventory change request correctly
(i.e. didn't confuse the parts in submitting the requests). The admin replied
it one or two days after. By then, I forgot what variant was listed in the listing
of 599-1 and what I requested to change and thought that both 3002 and 3003 are
listed and I requested to change them to 3002old and 3003old.
I am human and make mistakes, specially when I am tired, and working on several
things at once. (the other inventory change request of 7735) But I don't
thing this mistake was a bad one.
| Regarding your idea of changing all 3001, 3002, and 3003 to old variants up through
1990 and then backfilling any instances of the newer versions, this is not the
approach we are using.
The first reason is that the newer versions, strictly speaking, are undetermined
versions of the part that can stand for either version. So an old inventory with
the newer version is actually not wrong, even if the set is from the 1960's.
|
How users can know that 3003 is undetermined type?
| The second reason is that the transition time for each part (and even each color
of each part) was different. 1980 was the initial artificial line for all three
of these parts, but it became very clear, for example, that 3001 transitioned
earlier than the other two. So in order to construct an *accurate* timeline for
these parts, an open field is needed for people to report their findings.
|
I think I mentioned somewhere. I believe the transition time for 3001 was 1984.
I believe the parts 3002old and 3003old were changed to 3002 and 3003 at the
same time.
I think this happened in 1990 or 1991.
I have seen the new types 3002 and 3003 in a sealed set from 1992 but have seen
the old type in sets up to 1989. I do have photos of a sealed copy of 7745 from
late 1988 (maybe was on shelves in 1989) in which all bricks 3002 and 3003 are
the old type. I know the time of release of that set because of the production
date of motor (sealed in the middle tray).
| And realistically speaking, you will have many more people reporting the old
versions in an open field of new versions than new versions in a open field of
old versions.
|
There is a strong believe that 3002 and 3003 did not appear in any set up to
the end of 1988. I have photos of several sets for that and there is no evidence
disapproving it. The uncertainty would be for the years 1989, 1990 or 1991 for
which we don't know yet and either version can be chosen by default.
| of each part) was different. 1980 was the initial artificial line for all three

|
So there is an artificial line. How did you get 1980? I gave some reasons why
this artificial line should be changed to 1984 for 3001 and 1989 for 3002 and
3003.

| Hmmmmm
First thing: why I cannot find 1050-1 in any catalog? I checked about 10 of them
from 1986, 1988 and 1989.
The copy-right year on the box may not tell exact year of its release. Indeed,
TLG changed its packaging machines in 1989. So almost all train sets got new
boxes or got at least a new copy-right year in 1989. For example, the set 7824
has two types of box. First one has "copy right year of 1983" and the second
one "copy-right year 1983 and 1989".
Do we know that this set was not released in 1990 or 1991? If not, then the copy
you had might be from 1990 or 1991.
But maybe you found a catalog inside the box?

with 3003 or 3002, then we can change the inventory in the question.
|
I inventoried this set based on for-sure sealed contents:
The copyright date on the box was 1989 (I believe the set was nearing production
end and I rather doubt, but don't know, that it was in production much past
'89 or perhaps '90 - for all I know this could have been an actual 1989
version). As you can see, it included mixed 3002 and 3002old. Things aren't
always so neat in actual set contents and this must be taken into consideration
(although I'm sure you realize that).
However, site-wide changes like this have indeed been done in the past. It might
be better to approach Russell about this idea you have - I know I wouldn't
be comfortable undertaking such a project without some guidance.
I definitely agree that some of them appear to be, but I'm not sure enough
to change them based on that alone. Unfortunately, the photo is simply too low-resolution
to say for sure. I appreciate your honesty and your sharing the photo location,
but I don't believe the evidence is sufficient to approve these requests.

We don't know what was known in 2015 considering this set. But I would be
highlt surprised if viejos had found a copy of this set. This set basically is
out of sight. I periodically search this set in all local websites of Germany,
US, France, Netherland,.... but could never find it for sale. However I can find
all other basic sets such as 577,... .
Recently one guy listed in on bricklink and there is another MISB one in Austrlia
(gumtree.com.au)
Morris checked all his Italian catalogs and confirmed it did not appear in any
of them.
I checked all catalogs available online. In those of 1982, I could only find
it in the Polish one. Between 1983-5 in appeared in a couple of other catalogs.
All I know is
- this set exists!
- it was not promotional
- it was a limited-edition one
- it was sold for four years between 1982-85 so a strange limited-edition set!
- by googling, Morris found images of three variations of its box. Their difference
is only on the languages of the boxes. At the time, some boxes had texts in three
langauges: they are
D/F/I
UK/F/B
DK/S/SF
If you find anything else about it, please let me know.

This is sometime the wrong question. The better question here is:
If I want to inventory this set now, should I use 3003 or 3003old?
This is because at the time they inventoried 599-1, the old types 3002old and
3003old did not exist so they didn't ask this question.
(I can bet you would answer 3003old.)

Those are fair and well-spoken points.
Part 3003old was added in 2014 and viejos changed those for this set in 2015:

Do realize, though, that this set was inventoried in 2009 and 3002old was first
added to the catalog in 2002 - so it was available as an option for inventories
for 7 years before this set was first inventoried. Regardless of that, the source
of the inventory was Set Box/Picture - it can be assumed to contain inaccuracies.
Again, approach Russell regarding making site-wide changes to 3001, 3002, and
3003.

Again, approach Russell regarding making site-wide changes to 3001, 3002, and
3003.

| Let me be more exact:
The sets in my consideration are all released until 1990. All the bricks in 7735
and 7745 were the old type. I know a couple of those MISB sets were form 1989
based on the production date of the motor.
So the year 1989 or 1990 may be the exact transition time from old type to new
type in 3002 or 3003.
But 599 is from 1982-5. There is more reason for this set to be coming with 3002old
and 3003old.
You (being admin) always think: is there enough evidence to approve this request?
This is sometime the wrong question. The better question here is:
If I want to inventory this set now, should I use 3003 or 3003old?
This is because at the time they inventoried 599-1, the old types 3002old and
3003old did not exist so they didn't ask this question.
(I can bet you would answer 3003old.)

I agree. This is larger than the expected quantity of 1. They're also lying
in unusual places, as though they came from somewhere else.

| Please make changes to the following inventory:
* Change 1 Part Red {75c36 Hose, Rigid 3mm D. 36L / 28.8cm to 75c38 Hose, Rigid 3mm D. 38L / 30.4cm}
Comments from Submitter:
According to TLG it's "Outer Cable 304Mm". 304mm = 38 Studs

Except the cone with axle hole. It is obvious from the picture and I did approve
that request.

Probabilistic method is as reliable as finding a part variant in a sealed set
which has not been tampered with? I must disagree.
| Indeed it can be even more reliable depending on the case.
|
More reliable? My dear sir, probabilistic method is only educated guessing.
It proves nothing at all.
As an example, imagine that you flip a penny 500 million times and it comes up
heads every single time. According to how I understand your idea of probability,
this constitutes proof that the coin you've been flipping will only land
on one side.*
We both know that's wrong, though, and this coin-flipping experiment has
proven nothing in spite of its overwhelming numbers. I'm not criticizing
probability, for it is necessary enough that we all use it daily, but you're
overselling your case here.
*An example of the large numbers argument, over 100 in this case:

| I think the axle of the yellow cone is visible.
I do not care much about these bricks, but these inventory changes are meant
for a suggestion covering many sets.
The old type bricks are added recently (2014) but at that time, they probably
didn't know at what year they first appeared. In all photos for trains on
1990 or before that I have, there is no new type 3002 or 3003. In my Lego collection,
the only 3002 and 3003 I had was from a pirate set that I bought in 1992 (and
the only one that I bought after 1990 that came with bricks 2*2*1 or 2*3*1)
Based on my observation the following parts appeared first on the given years:
1984
1991
1991
So I think we should change all bricks 3002 and 3003 to 3002old and 3003old for
sets released on 1990 or before. Then if there is evidence for any of them coming
with 3003 or 3002, then we can change the inventory in the question.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/94457477@N06/41739810795/in/dateposted-public/
In my photo, we cannot be 100% sure if those bricks are 3002 or 3002old however
they appear to be 3002old.

Alternatively, if you will confirm that you were able to identify at least one
of the bricks without cross supports in each color that you requested based on
the photo or photos which you have access to, then I will approve the requests
based on your word.

But again, that is as reliable as other reliable methods (if used wisely: for
only rare parts, not on bricks,...) Indeed it can be even more reliable depending
on the case.

There is no need to post photos of used sets, since I give this evidence almost
no weight when considering whether to approve or reject change requests.
Unless, that is, you are the original owner of the used set, you have owned it
since it was brand new from a sealed box, and you are very confident that it
has not been modified or mixed with other sets.
