Please make changes to the following inventory:

Set No: 8637 Name: Mission 8: Volcano Base
*
8637-1 (Inv) Mission 8: Volcano Base
688 Parts, 6 Minifigures, 2008
Sets: Agents

* Add 2 Part 78c07 Pearl Light Gray Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 7L (Alternate) (match ID 2)
* Change 2 Part {Metallic Silver to Flat Silver} 78c07 Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 7L {match ID 0 to 2}
* Change 1 Part {Metallic Silver to Pearl Light Gray} 78c11 Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 11L

Comments from Submitter:
The building instructions (found on brickinstructions .com) says that the 7L hose is ElementID 4495203 which BL says is Flat Silver, and the 11L hose is ElementID 4495208 which BL says is Pearl Light Gray. I bought this set in a large lot of sets. Exactly 5 "grayish" hoses were found in the lot, and they match the ones for this set in the correct lengths (3 regular + 2 extra) and no other sets in the lot uses hoses so they can only come from this set. But all 5 hoses are Pearl Light Gray, therefore I propose PLG as an alternate color. Either that, or 4495203 is actually Pearl Light Gray, not Flat Silver (can anyone confirm this, and would TLG include two hoses in different grayish colors in the same set?)

In a response to this request, I'll post a picture of the hoses found.

Also: Metallic Silver variant for these two hoses currently only exist for this set which and this request will remove them. So do these hoses actually exist in Metallic Silver and if so, from which set? The 78c07 picture seems to suggest that at least that one exists, although the image is so small that it's hard to judge the actual color (it looks more like Chrome Silver to me, although that's not a valid color for this part either).

  In a response to this request, I'll post a picture of the hoses found.

The 5 hoses on the right side are the ones found in the lot. I've put two
other (shorter) hoses from my spare parts on the left to show that the 5 hoses
are Pearl Light Gray. The 2 short ones appear to be Flat Silver - a little darker
and a bit more shiny.

These hoses are definitely not Metallic Silver, since Metallic Silver is a color
used to denote a color that uses a coating of silver paint on a plain part (in
this case usually Light Bluish Gray). These hoses could never have been coated
in the layer of paint, since the paint would have cracked off when the hoses
were bent. From your picture, I believe Pearl Light Gray is the correct color
for the hoses you found.

Cheers,
Randy

There may be a problem with the PCCs. I've looked at large photos of set
and all 3 hoses appear to be the same color.

  But all 5 hoses are Pearl Light Gray, therefore I propose PLG as an alternate color.

Not a fan of the alternate color idea until it can be confirmed in a set (preferably
a new set). We need to decide if these are PLG or flat silver and go with
that for right now. This is an in-depth issue which will likely affect the inventories
of other sets and may take some time to properly determine.

If anyone has any further information, it would be much appreciated.

Okay, here's what I did. I approved your requests (except for adding the
alternate) and then changed the colors of all the ribbed hoses in this set to
flat silver. I did this because in large official images of the set all three
hoses appear to be the same color (I also submitted the largest possible image
of the set to the catalog).

The PCC you mentioned for the 11L hose is shared by PLG and flat silver on BrickLink,
BTW, so either could be correct. I also updated the ribbed hoses in the extra
parts section to flat silver for this set.

This changes may not be correct, but I think the only way to know for sure is
to check a brand new set.

If you're in doubt which color the hoses are, why would you choose Flat Silver
instead of PLG? I've argued that they're PLG and I believe my image shows
it. If not convinced, I've now taken another picture to show the color differences.

On top is some flat silver parts (the tile only exists in Flat Silver and it
comes from set 10232), including the short hose found in my spare parts.

On the bottom are PLG parts (including one of the hoses that must belong to set
8637).

In other words, I still believe that PLG is the correct color of the hoses in
this set.

Primarily because you said:

  I bought this set in a large lot of sets.

You can't know if the parts in this set have been tampered with. Also, flat
silver makes more sense when looking at the set photo - these parts are clearly
intended to be silvery to accent the metallic silver parts in the set.

Further, there is some debate over whether PLG and flat silver are officially
different colors or merely variations in what TLG intended to be the same color.

You'll notice that this part only appears in 1 set in PLG:

Part No: 78c07  Name: Hose, Ribbed 7mm D.  7L / 5.6cm
*
78c07 Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 7L / 5.6cm
Parts: Hose, Ribbed 7mm D.

and this only in 4 sets:

Part No: 78c11  Name: Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 11L / 8.8cm
*
78c11 Hose, Ribbed 7mm D. 11L / 8.8cm
Parts: Hose, Ribbed 7mm D.

So the parts appear in a combined total of 5 sets in PLG, but in a combined total
of 40 sets in flat silver.
