| About two weeks ago, I did some search and found few other auctions listing or
other photos of this gray transformer with the box of 740.
Otherwise, how did this gray transformer appear?
More important, please note that the blue era ended in 1979 and the gray era
began in 1980. However, it seems to me that the blue track-related parts had
already began to be replaced by their gray ones. For example, see
[p=bb93]
and
[p=bb141c01].
Their gray ones do not appear in any set. (Of course, I will work on them
)
Knowing this fact would make my future inventory requests much smoother.

At the time of this request, longtime member brasletty has a new set for sale
which also shows the light gray transformer (photo attached) The part in light
gray appears in no other set at this time, but multiple photos demonstrate its
existence and there are 7 listings of light gray for sale.
I have little doubt in the accuracy of this request and it has been approved.

Comments from Submitter:
Request was originally submitted by member ParisianStore. The source was a used set purchased on eBay and the request was denied based on the source.
The accuracy of the request was later confirmed by catalog administrator maggiec based on a sealed set. The original submitter should get credit for this change, but has not resubmitted the request.
It is possible, perhaps even likely, that this set also included 2536a at some point (possibly even a mixture of both in some sets). That has not been confirmed yet, though.

| Normally old inventories with no source are unreliable when it comes to variants.
This particular submitter, though, is an expert on Classic Space, and when I
have contacted him in the past he has been able to defend all of his old inventories
with sealed set contents.
|
To be clear, my earlier comment wasn't meant to question the original submitter's
good faith; I realize it could have been inferred as such, which was unintended.
But to follow up on a previous remark, how can we know b-type is more common
(cf: rules) from a sample of one, anyway?
I can't dismiss the original inventory as innacurate; what I can do is ask
for further input from others to establish precedence between versions, thus
properly following the rules as they stand. I suppose a review of the rules themselves
would be out of the question?
In the meanwhile - please advise how to proceed. Should I add a-type as alternate,
for the sake of inclusion?

I have cheanged the inventory to Type A for the moment. I'll send a note
to the original submitter to confirm the older part.

This set was released between 1983-90. The inventory was corrected as you said.
The problem of hinges is that they started to appear with hollow studs since
1987 but I believe they were in production since 1985. Some sets such as 7823,
7735 and 7745 come with hinges. But I have never seen them in any auction with

Regardless of how often the inventory for this set has been changed in the past,
both hollow and closed studes on these hinges are possible to be in this set.
This means both versions should be included in the inventory, one as regular,
one as alternate. Since closed studes were the original when this set was released,
hollow studs were the "alternate" done by Lego themselves. There you have it.

Some time ago, I made some changes to old space sets regarding these hinges.
Here are my findings: https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=221772
So 1985 is also the first year of hollow studs in my findings.
Set 6844 (1983): Solid studs
Set 6928 (1984): Solid studs
Set 6872 (1985): Hollow studs
Set 6055 (1985): Hollow studs

All I know are the release years of the sets, so actually I can't prove that
1985 is the year that the hollow studs made their first appearance. But they
show up in sets that were first released in 1985. My sets might be from a later
production. I don't how for how many years each set were produced.

| I bought this set in a large lot of sets.
|
You can't know if the parts in this set have been tampered with. Also, flat
silver makes more sense when looking at the set photo - these parts are clearly
intended to be silvery to accent the metallic silver parts in the set.
Further, there is some debate over whether PLG and flat silver are officially
different colors or merely variations in what TLG intended to be the same color.
You'll notice that this part only appears in 1 set in PLG:
and this only in 4 sets:
So the parts appear in a combined total of 5 sets in PLG, but in a combined total
of 40 sets in flat silver.

Yes, I see what you're saying.

It doesn't address this situation at all. We have the ability to update

Some time ago, I made some changes to old space sets regarding these hinges.
Here are my findings: https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=221772
So 1985 is also the first year of hollow studs in my findings.

Set 6872 (1985): Hollow studs

All I know are the release years of the sets, so actually I can't prove that
1985 is the year that the hollow studs made their first appearance. But they
show up in sets that were first released in 1985. My sets might be from a later
production. I don't how for how many years each set were produced.

Okay, here's what I did. I approved your requests (except for adding the
alternate) and then changed the colors of all the ribbed hoses in this set to
flat silver. I did this because in large official images of the set all three
hoses appear to be the same color (I also submitted the largest possible image
of the set to the catalog).
The PCC you mentioned for the 11L hose is shared by PLG and flat silver on BrickLink,
BTW, so either could be correct. I also updated the ribbed hoses in the extra
parts section to flat silver for this set.
This changes may not be correct, but I think the only way to know for sure is
to check a brand new set.
|
If you're in doubt which color the hoses are, why would you choose Flat Silver
instead of PLG? I've argued that they're PLG and I believe my image shows
it. If not convinced, I've now taken another picture to show the color differences.
On top is some flat silver parts (the tile only exists in Flat Silver and it
comes from set 10232), including the short hose found in my spare parts.
On the bottom are PLG parts (including one of the hoses that must belong to set
8637).
In other words, I still believe that PLG is the correct color of the hoses in
this set.

| Dan had a particular way in giving marks for each inventory change reqeust. He
told me this himself in one of my recent dreams.
He gives some weight to each inv. change requests in a way that if the inv. change
is for an old set, the weight is more than 100 times than if an inv. change request
is added for some part like a jumper with/without groove. Specially, if the inv.
change is submitted for a set that had not have any change for years and that
the submitted h has suffered some grifes from admins, then the weight would be
200.

| I heard somebody has been knocking my door.
Our excel file consists of 31 sheets for 31 sets, each consisting of some parts
in one of the following status:
1) need further investigation (we don't know yet if the part has to be added
to the inventory of that set)
2) we know that the part has to be added (or removed) and we have found enough
evidence (so once it is possible, the inventory change can be submitted)
3) we know and we are sure that the part has to be added to the inventory (or
removed from the inv.) but we need more evidence to prove it to Stormchaser/admin_Russel/viejos
If this inventory change is going to be approved, then I can assume we can remove
the third category from my excel file and submit them right away. It will be
more than 100 inventory change requests. I guess my name and Lego.12vtrains'
one should then be added to the Guinness book of World Records?

Okay, so I went down to the basement (which I hate to do after dark even though
it's just as dark down there during midday) to take a look at a sealed one
in my shop figuring I'd find 2536b, as these sets were from a later run purchased
from KB Toy Liquidators a year or two after they were at other stores, but the
four trunk segments I can see through the window under the flap are all 2536a.
My gut feeling is that both variations appeared in Paradisa sets, and I'd
