I'm very disheartened today. I received my first neutral feedback yesterday
and thought I did everything I could to make things right. While pulling the
order I found one small part that was slightly discolored. I notified the customer
and gave them a refund but let them have the part anyway incase they could use
it. I shipped the order and the customer recieved it quickly (even sent me an
email thanking me for shipping so quickly). Later I received an email that one
of the parts I sent (a 1x2 slope) was actually a MB brand. I try to make sure
all my used parts are LEGO but sometimes one may slip through. I replied to
them (through gmail) on Jan 29th and refunded them for the part. I thought everyting
was fine. Yesterday I received a neutral feedback stating I never replied or
did anything. You try your best to keep 100% praise then one customer kills it.

No, I guess I should have, but I already I charge the minimum amount on shipping.
But, the feedback states that I didn't reply and I did. As soon as I was
notified. If he would have asked for a refund on shipping I would have given
it to him. It was one $0.15 cent part but the feedback will cost me alot more.

You should always keep in mind the buyer needs to order the item elsewhere, therefore
has extra shippingcosts.
It is better to reimburse the value of the part and (part of) the shippingcosts.

Sure, but the buyer will have to source the part from elsewhere and pay shipping
on that order - that's why it's a good idea to refund shipping costs.
At least offer it to the buyer (they might say not to worry about it).

But, the feedback states that I didn't reply and I did.

Might be worth replying to the feedback.

I did reply to the feedback. It's just frustrating with all the bad sellers
you see out there that someone would bother to leave feedback on something so
minor. If didn't try to fix the problem or if I was slow on shipping, not
commucative at all, parts were in bad shape or not packed well, then yes, leave
feedback. But a neutral is as bad as a negitive when it comes to the praise
precentage.

Seems it might be fixable given the other member's concern, temperament and
overall feedback history. If the neutral bothers overly, that is.

But a neutral is as bad as a negitive when it comes to the praise precentage.

When I'm buying, I read the neutral and negative feedback of sellers I'm
looking to buy from and it's often clear to me that it's the buyer being
what I consider unfair or too harsh. This neutral would not prevent me from buying
from you nor would it even give me pause. It'll fall off eventually anyway.
Don't sweat it.

The first one always stings a little bit. I wouldn't worry about it - this
happens to just about every seller on here sooner or later.

The "I emailed sender but no response" feedback being left when that
isn't what happened is an underhanded tactic increasingly used both here
on Bricklink and on other platforms. It is an attempt by buyers to protect themselves
from being stoplisted by other sellers as being difficult or petty. They want
to ding your feedback score but make it look like they tried to resolve the "problem"
but you disappeared.

Counting neutrals the same as negatives in the seller's feedback percentage
has been pointed out countless times to no avail.

Unfortunately, you will be stuck with this neutral in your FB percentage forever.
There are sellers here with a negative from 15 years ago that is still included
in their FB percentage. This is also dumb.

Refunding the entire shipping cost of an order because of a 10 cent commodity
part is a bit much. When postage up to 4 ounces was a flat $1.94 to any part
of the US I could see doing it but that isn't the case anymore.

What I do in such a case is also offer the buyer the option that I buy the wrong
part for him elsewhere and then send it to him. Or I have it sent directly
to the customer by the store where I buy the part. I admit this is an expensive
option, but most customers like it because it means they don't have to worry
about it anymore.

My take is that they used spelling to make it clear they are getting better.

Well, that or their spelling and typing is not very good: “th” instead of “st”,
“nd”, and “rd” and “my own fold” which should be “my own fault” but, if you know
Germanic pronunciation, you know that a final ‘d’ is sounded ‘t’ (unvoiced).
But then, can you write in Dutch?  I can’t.

“AI”s get the spelling right and the meaning wrong.  The meaning is perfectly
clear here.

(I’m trying very hard not to say there’s worse: some incomprehensible & horrible
spelling by native English speakers… oops, I just did it )

My two cents:

It's actually very plausible that they did not receive your reply. You said
you emailed them through gmail -- it might have gone straight to their Junk
Mail folder. I'd recommend only ever using the BrickLink system to send messages,
to avoid this issue.

Also, don't trip over neutral feedbacks. Heck, don't even trip over the
occasional negative feedback. I've seen plenty of shops with tons of neutral/negative
feedbacks still getting a constant influx of orders. Most buyers just don't
pay attention to the actual feedback, they just look at the 'score' next
to the sellers username.

and thought I did everything I could to make things right.

Without seeing the order details (qty of parts, order total, rareness of parts
in question, etc), I can not say. Each case needs to be handled differently
depending on its complexity. As a seller I know when the part might be crucial
to the order or not and I will slash the shipping in half or email them and
ask for their input (would they like a full refund). Sometimes it's just
a quick note, hey I'm minus 1 on this part.

That being said if ever sent a customer a Mega blocks product I would give them
a full refund ASAP.

Congratulations on your first neutral, so early in your life as a seller. Blaming
someone else is easy. Just accept the fact you can't control everything.

My advice: reply on the feedback, say thank you and will do better. That will
give future customers a feeling of trust. Simply complaining on the forum will
not.

Paul

Update. Customer finally realized I did contact them. They thankfully retracted
the neutral feedback and my praise is back to 100%. Now everything is well with
the world.

Thanks for all the comments on and off topic.

That's good. It probably won't make a difference to your sales either
way, but at least it will make you feel better about it.

But learn from it and double check used lots for clones.
