Odd timing on this suggestion considering everyone that wants to retain the old
variants will be forced to use multiple lots.
If you are talking about stores that have several dozen identical lots per part,
it's due to their use of the part out system without consolidating. If they
use locations in the Remarks for storage, then the multiple lots are unavoidable.

I guess I hadn’t thought about it that way. 🤔

For the benefit of whom?
Stores do that for multiple different valid reasons, here's one:
"For all items, available for a longer time, we offer discounts to sell
these parts as well. We update discounts in the beginning and middle of each
month. At the moment of discount-update, we set all parts:
- available longer than 31 days 15% OFF
- available longer than 61 days 30% OFF
- available longer than 91 days 45% OFF
- available longer than 121 days 60% OFF
- available longer than 151 days 75% OFF
So you always find great prices for some parts!
We do not consolidate new updated items with older items. So it might happen
you find the same part several times for different prices within our stock. That's
correct, due to the discount-system."
So, as annoying as it may be for me as a Buyer, and unless I am missing something,
it is my opinion that they definitely should be allowed to keep doing so.

| No need. If I see a store with many lots of the same part in the same condition
I least favorite the store and move on. I'm not scrolling though that mess.

Personally, I would like to see Bricklink crack down on price guide manipulation,
which includes but is not limited to:
1. Excessive lots without reason other than poor inventory management.
2. Unrealistic minimum purchases (ie $1000)
3. Listing prices in excess of 1000% of price guide average.
3. Additional fees added at checkout.
The only way I can deal with these stores now is to least favorite them.

Those can have realistic cases tho
| 1. Excessive lots without reason other than poor inventory management.
|
Like you mentioned poor inventory management
| 2. Unrealistic minimum purchases (ie $1000)
|
Selling store and don’t want any orders but want to showcase inventory
| 3. Listing prices in excess of 1000% of price guide average.
|
Rare version of item such as misprint or non separated variant
| 3. Additional fees added at checkout.
|
Things like sales tax have to be added manually by many sellers

They could try to educate those sellers if it gets so out of hand buyers get
mad.
| 2. Unrealistic minimum purchases (ie $1000)
|
There are some good cases for high minimum purchases.
| 3. Listing prices in excess of 1000% of price guide average.
|
You can report those as frivolous listings here:
https://www.bricklink.com/problemInventory.asp
| 3. Additional fees added at checkout.
|
The time will come for that as regulation is starting to take place:
