So ive been building with my sons for years. One 13 and one 6. My wife saw this
little lego gear bots set and asked me about getting it for my 6 year old. I
said cool as I love engineering and design. So I searched for a bigger set for
my 13 year old. I ended up getting a block science and education STEAM set (not
lego), for him. we started playing around with stuff and built some stuff out
of the steam set while also introducing my 6 year old to a bit of the way things
move. Then I was like cool we can build a car. We did and it only went forward
and back with no control. Research time. Enter lego power functions. Ordered
a basic P/F kit and made a kind of slip clutch gear thing for front steering
with the little rubber lego pieces. It worked well but uses too much power. Research.
Enter servo motor and other ways to power, transmit and receive.
My goal is to make a super awesome R/C car or truck to show them it can be
done, then to augment the design different ways for the need. Like going fast
for smoother ground or lowering speed and upping torque for climbing. We've
also been experimenting with suspension.so the super awesome R/C truck Ive decided
on is a MOC on YouTube. A Baja trophy truck. Boom, the creator has awesome instructions
and parts list. And I know Lego purists will be mad at me for using things other
than Lego, but my goal is to teach my children and on a limited budget as well
so getting the desired result with strictly Lego isn't feasible for my situation.
So that brought me to brick link as I got a small cheap set of some off-brand
technic parts and clutch power varies and is unreliable. I have my list entered
into the wanted list. Most I put on the list are used but chose to pick new for
balljoint parts and the like so they would have a crisp clutch (maybe thinking
too much into it but after messing with the off brands, moving parts that need
a specific tolerance is a must to the build.
So ive made the list, then I see I can get like 95% of the parts at one place
for a really good deal. I'm left with 2 other places that I'm only getting
like 40 cents worth of parts. And I'm assuming if I just up the quantity
to the min buy with the other 2 stores then I just get a couple of extra parts.
And that would be sufficient but then I will basically be spending 6 or more
dollars per store on shipping from 2 stores plus the shipping from the other
store that has 95% of the parts. So my first question is, is that just the name
of the game or am I missing something. Like is there another solution to the
very small amount of lego that the 95% store doesn't have or something I
am missing on the brick link site. And question #2 is when I find said 95% parts
store, is there a way to see which parts they don't have without manualy
comparing my parts list to the soon to be invoice, or confirming them and then
looking at the other stores to see the ones that the 95% store didn't have.
Sorry so long, just letting whoever know where Im coming from and what I need.
Any answers would be greatly appreciated, thank you and God bless.

Please keep in mind that requesting an invoice is a sale with additional accurate
shipping and handeling cost calculated.

If you only want to have the estimate without "commitment" use the quote
feature.

That being said; maby if you contact the 95% store they might have addional sorted
lego still to be uploaded or they can source it for you in some way!

Goor luck with you and your sons building adventures.

Well, you can contact that store to ask them if they have the missing parts not
yet listed or if they can acquire them for you.

And question #2 is when I find said 95% parts

It’s not clear how you found the stores.  EasyBuy?
I would advise to use the Buy page: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/wanted/buy.page
there’s filters and other features.

You can use Auto-select to find a selection of stores or you can select them
yourself.

Once a store is selected, look on the left, in the Wanted Items tab (yes, it’s
a tab!): the items that were found will have disappeared from the list and the
remaining ones are still to be found.

You may unselect stores you don’t like and restart the process with other options
on the remaining parts.  You may also put a store on your least-favourite list
to prevent them from being auto-selected.

Don’t forget to read the stores’ terms.

I apologize, when I said store, meant the extensive list of places or sites to
buy from that comes up when I choose buy all on the brick link site. and when
I try easy buy, a bunch of parts come up as not available for sale. but if I
choose manually then people have them. so ill probably just choose manually.
I'm trying to get all this ironed out before I actually order my first wanted
list so when we want to build something we can get on here and it will be smooth.
So many people use it and have good things to say about it so it's just a
matter of figuring out the site. I'm probably going to check out some you
tube vids and look at the help part of the site. and I'm going right now
to try to look at the wanted items tab thing. Thank you so much for your help
and please forgive the ignorance.

Yes, it’s what we call stores
They are all independant stores.

   and when
I try easy buy, a bunch of parts come up as not available for sale. but if I

On the Buy Page (where you arrive with Buy All) you can mix both manual and Auto-select.
You can also try filters (by country / region for instance), that gives you different
selections / different stores.

You may also only search stores for the rarer parts and then look if they have
the more common parts.  (Of course, that means you know which parts are rare/common
)
Removing a part or two from the search can change the results tremendously (price-wise
too).
It’s because the algorithm cuts corner (it can’t really look at all the possibilities)
and a few changes may change its behaviour.

I’d really encourage you to use the Wanted Items tab on the left.  You can (un)select
parts to search or make some parts required (little lock icon; stores that don’t
have those parts are removed from the list).

No problem, take you time to test things and learn.  The site is indeed not easy.
LEGO is complicated

Don’t hesitate to come back here with questions… or without
