My current practice as a seller has been to leave feedback upon payment. Before
I even ship the package. However, in a recent post i was reading about feedback,
it seems like some sellers wait until the buyer leaves feedback before leaving
feedback. As a seller, what is your timeline for posting feedback?

From my pov I do it for 1 main reason that probably many others who leave it
at the same time as me do. Bricklink gives the notification to leave it. If I
ever get automatic feedback placing as an option I’d strongly consider leaving
it earlier

| I leave it when I ship. Once the buyer has paid for the transaction, they are
done with their obligation. Some leave feedback, some dont.. I do not focus or
worry about any of that.

We usually leave feedback 2 - 4 days after the order is completed.

For me it works like this..
1. Buyer creates and order and pays (I use 100% instant checkout so this happens
at the same time)
2. I fulfill order and ship it. If there is any issue with it, I discuss with
Buyer ahead of time, but this is like 1 of 500 orders it seems. If I am missing
a piece, I go and find it myself which involved cracking a new set to get it
if needed.
3. After I drop off the package at UPS or USPS, I send out the "drive thru"
and subsequently also provide my feedback. The customer has completed their
task in making the purchase, that is their only requirement. Everything else
is on me to pack well, to have the order 100% fulfilled, and then on the delivery
service to do their job.
So, when do I provide feedback, usually within 24 hours after a purchase is completed.

I feel there is absolutely nothing else I can do to be better to receive more
feedback.
Everything is packed with extra padding or very well packed to begin with, no
errors, and 95% of orders are shipped on same day or the next day (including
on Saturdays) even when the order is 100 Sets that requires multiple boxes or
2,000+ pieces and 300+ lots.
I pull orders many times until 3am or later (whatever is necessary) to meet these
shipping speeds to get their orders out just as fast as any big box retailer
would. And then, I leave feedback and provide the "drive-thru" when
I drop off the packages at USPS or UPS. I drop them all off because than I know
with certainty that they are checked in properly and I have a receipt of it too.
But, that is just how it is on this website, which is totally fine with me overall,
I just wish that Lego would advertise it or advertise more than just the "top
5-10" gross selling stores so some of the little guys could see some additional
action.

Do people actually use the list of biggest sellers when buying? For me it is
wants lists for cheaper parts and price guide / sort by price for expensive parts/figures/sets.
I tend to avoid the big sellers, not because they are big but based on prices.

As a seller:
The buyer's obligation is to pay you. Once they have paid you, their obligation
to you has been met.
I use Brick Freedom to automatically post feedback once the buyer marks the order
received.
The reason I wait for buyer to mark order received is in case some scammer wants
to pull some kind of chargeback scheme right away. Is using a stolen CC/hacked
account etc.
As a buyer:
Around 60% of sellers leave feedback once they ship.
Around 25% leave feedback once order is marked received or after buyer leaves
feedback.
Around 15% never leave feedback.

Including messaging to let you know if there are special requirements or any
issues, and replying promptly when you message them.

I leave feedback as soon as the buyer pays. It costs me nothing, and projects
good relationships. Now, every now and then you get a trigger happy cow boy who's

With regards to concerns over when to leave feedback and the hold that certain
buyers/sellers can have over each other in terms of retaliation feedback I did
suggest this as a solution:-
https://www.bricklink.com/messageThread.asp?ID=317097&nID=1327467
That said in truth I don't even think we need to have a system where sellers
leave feedback for buyers just a simple automatic tally score of orders placed
is all that is required. A feedback system should only be in place for the purpose
of rating the seller. Problem buyers only need be reported and blocked

For known customers that leave feedback, I'll normally leave feedback when
I mark as dispatched.
For known customers that don't leave feedback, I'll normally just file
it without leaving feedback when I mark as dispatched.
For unknown customers, I'll normally leave feedback when it is marked complete
and/or they leave feedback.
I sell mainly new/unused parts from parted out sets so condition or identification
is rarely an issue. My typical orders are small enough that I very rarely make
a missing item issue. So I am not worried that a buyer is going to complain about
any of those things. If they claim not delivered, then I either have delivery
confirmation or proof of posting, so in the latter case I will refund and claim
from Royal Mail. I still occasionally get complaints about condition due to faint
scratches on new parts, and those buyers typically get refunds or asked to return
the order depending on value and stop listed.

I typically leave feedback about once a week and I don't bother checking
if they left me feedback or not. There is no point in stressing about it!

The question has been asked, and answered hundreds of times on this forum.
I leave feedback when I ship. I don't see any useful reason to make the buyer
wait for feedback.
A wise person once said that the key to life was to do things for other people
the way you would want them to do for you. That's the answer to the feedback
dilemma in my book.

I am primarily a buyer and newish to this site. My store is being approved at
the moment.
For me its simple. As a seller your part is done when payment and address in
full have been received and goods shipped. There is no reason for feedback to
be held at this point. There is nothing i can do as a buyer better than pay quick
and provide all the needed info to ship so why delay my feedback?
As a buyer I will post feedback as soon as i have received the goods as expected.
I will never post feedback on a buyer if i have not already received it from
them. As my experience is i will never get it so why am i making them look good
if they cant be bothered to do the same for me.
Often I get an email from the seller saying its been shipped and please dont
forget to post feedback when you get it.. over 2 weeks later Im still waiting
for their feedback... Why would i post theirs first?

There is a reason. There may still be an issue with the order and how the buyer
deals with this could impact feedback.
However, I see no reason to not post feedback as soon as the buyer marks the
order complete. Holding feedback waiting for the other party to leave feedback,
doesn't seem right to me, but waiting for the buyer to mark the order complete
does. Even the buyer marking the order complete is part of the transaction.
I used to be very good about leaving feedback, as a buyer. Now I have gotten
lazy, even related to marking orders complete in a timely manner. However, if
a seller doesn't have a lot of feedback already, I feel it is more important
for me, as a buyer, to leave them feedback. If they have thousands of feedback
already, any feedback I leave has less impact on them, unless my feedback is
somewhat different than what the thousands of feedback already say.

A buyer should check an order and let a seller know if there is an issue. If
informed of an issue a seller should probably try to rectify it.
Buyer feedback doesn't really mean anything, it doesn't really help them
at all (so long as overall they are not nagative). Whereas seller feedback is
important for other buyers to decide whether the seller is a good one.
It is interesting that you will never leave feedback for a buyer unless they
have left it for you. So if they scam you and don't leave you feedback, then
you won't leave them feedback.

This is like opening a can of worms . . . different perspectives from buyers
and sellers.
Many sellers waiting to post feedback until after the buyer's posts feedback
are almost expecting negative feedback and want to opportunity to have the last
word.
I recently had an interaction with a seller that is crying for a negative review.
I know he is waiting for me to post my feedback so he can use his to say how
bad a buyer I am.
You can't read his terms of service and blames the poor tools on Bricklink
for his inability to format them properly. Gosh, 99% of the sellers don't
have problems formatting their terms of service. If someone calls him out for
a mistake, it is never his fault and flames the buyer for being aggressive, unreasonable,
etc.
Life is too short to play his game.
I appreciate sellers who don't focus on their feedback. They do the best
they can to keep their customers happy and recognize not everyone will be 100%
satisfied nor will everyone provide feedback. As a seller did their best.
My dad built a multi-million dollar business from scratch. I learned from him:
- Treat your customers right and they will return the favor.
- Some customers will never be happy. Don't dwell on them, it takes your
focus off your other customers.
- Life is not always fair and there's nothing you can do to fix it.

Like you, my practice as a seller is to leave feedback upon payment.
| However, in a recent post i was reading about feedback,
it seems like some sellers wait until the buyer leaves feedback before leaving
feedback. As a seller, what is your timeline for posting feedback?
|
I see no reason to hold my feedback to buyer hostage to force them to give selfsame
as some sellers tend to do.

| It only makes sense for the buyer to leave feedback first when satisfied. The
seller should wait until the buyer marks it complete or posts feedback. If the
seller sends feedback right after shipping, there is the possibility of the set
being lost or stolen, or there being a missing part or other issue. Only the
buyer knows if the order arrived and is complete. Remember the USPS will mark
it delivered on the tracking app and a porch pirate can still get it.
I also note that fewer buyers seem to be leaving feedback.

But why would that affect the feedback the seller leaves?

Because of how the buyer acts when there is a problem. Do they tell the seller
promptly and politely, or do they wait three months or are they aggressive. Do
they return an item promptly if damaged or do they insist on a refund and the
item.
Just like most sellers here are decent people, the vast majority of buyers are
too. But not all. Some try it on. If a seller feels strongly enough that others
should be informed about something that happened during a transaction after paying,
surely that is their right.

The seller does not need to wait until the buyer marks the order complete in
order to file the seller's feedback. The seller can file feedback anytime
in the order process, in particular when the buyer has met all his responsibility,
which is simply, to pay.
