Am I right in believing that the minifigures came pre-assembled in these sets
and can be listed as new ?

The other question that comes to mind is, were the Knights and Bishops also pre-assembled
?

If the latter two types of chess piece were pre-assembled then how are these
to be listed ?

The only option appears to require them to be taken apart and sold as parts which
then makes them used.

Set No: 852001 Name: Chess
*
852001-1 (Inv) Chess
162 Parts, 24 Minifigures, 2 Gear, 2007
Sets: Castle: Fantasy Era: Games

According to BL TOS/Help, New Minifigures can be sold New while either having
been assembled (for their listing in shop) or not.

In short, you don't care.

But personnaly, I don't like this, and I think sellers assembling a fig are
just playing and having fun with them (the exact fun the buyer should have)...
That's IMHO.

The problem here is “believing”: that means Stuart didn’t open a sealed set.
So who knows who built these minifigures and who knows if they were ever disassembled
or played with (= “only displayed by an AFOL”)?

Set opened, seller told me that they were unused and they appear that way but
who knows for certain.

Not used as chess board warped.

Knights and Bishops are assembled but there doesn’t appear to be a listing for
them in this state.

Ooh, checked the RRP on Brickset: nice army pack!
If I hadn’t been in the gloom of my dark ages, I’d have bought one or two just
for the minifigs.

Counterpart assemblies weren’t catalogued at the time.

Thanks, I also prefer them unassembled myself.

Anyone know about the Knights and Bishops, were they assembled and if so, can
we have a listing for them in assembled state ?

I seem to recall they were all assembled in a new set, including the brick-built
ones. In fact, looking back at some contemporary reviews, they mention that they
are not glued which is a good indication that they were assembled. There would
be no point saying a bunch of unassembled parts were not glued together.
