| I've done some buying of parts and other stuff but have not bought a set
yet on Bricklink and I have a question about shipping on sets. As a seller are
you ok with a buyer waiting until they see the shipping and handling costs before
they decide they want to go through with the purchase? I mean once the invoice
is sent, do you as sellers have issues if the buyer does not want to go through
with the sale? Or is the sale in your mind definite once the invoice is generated?
Or should I ask to get an estimate by contacting the seller before I even put
the set in my cart? I want to do things the best way for all concerned, buyer
and seller. Thank you for taking a little time to read my post and thank you
if you answer

| if a buyer requests a quote i don't consider it a sale but rather curiosity
(usually about shipping costs) but if they request an invoice i consider it a
purchase and if they buyer doesn't pay i file a NPB to protect myself against
neutral/negative feedback if payment is not made (in most cases but if the buyer
is respectful and explains then will cancel without NPB)

| Hello,
I agree with the previous responder. Requesting an invoice is just a request
to find out exact shipping costs. No Harm, no foul

I think you mean requesting a quote. An invoice only happens when the
buyer has made a purchase (clicked the "Checkout with PayPal" button
or equivalent).

There are also some shops... like mine for an example, where if you make any
purchase, shipping is only $4.99 regardless of what is ordered, including sets.
Instant checkout is also enabled to make the entire process as easy as possible
and so orders can get shipped out quickly too.

You should always have the amount the seller expects from you clearly identified
before you are expected to commit to that payment. I see it as basic contract
law. However, many sellers feel differently and will put in a non paying buyer
complaint if you don’t pay this previously undisclosed amount. Particularly
as Bricklink charges fees at this point. I suggest shopping with stores which
use instant checkout to protect yourself.

If it is a single set and there is no instant checkout or option to ask for acquote
in the checkout, then just ask. Tell the seller the set and location.

If you ask for a quote or just msg the seller ahead of time, then no problem.
But if you do the full checkout, you are actively removing this item(s) from
the seller's inventory so you have "bought" it. The seller no longer
has an opportunity to sell to someone else while waiting for a wish-ywashy buyer
to commit. Think about it from this POV.
