Hi,

About 2 weeks ago I (Belgium) bought a few things from a store from Norway, since
it was less than €150 I paid the VAT via Bricklink which would normally take
care of this. The package was shipped and arrived at customs, normally this
should just be allowed to pass through here as the VAT has already been paid
via Bricklink, but I got an email that I still have to pay VAT and now also
the import tax. After this I sent a mail to the seller to ask if something had
gone wrong with the IOSS number, but still have no answer after almost a week.
What can I do now? (The import tax and VAT I would have to pay again are +-
50% of the value of the package)

Thanks in advance for the reply!

Hi,

First, would you mind stopping cancelling your messages?  We don’t have time
to answer them.

Now, for the answer:

What could have happened is that the seller or their postal services didn’t transmit
the IOSS number electronically.
The VAT receipt that the seller should have attached to the package isn’t even
read by customs

Unfortunately, the seller can’t do much now: they didn’t receive the tax money,
so they can’t really refund you.

On the other hand, BrickLink received the tax money and, according to my understanding
of the adopted solution¹, it’s BL that should refund the VAT².
(And if BL already remitted the VAT, it can be deducted on the next remittance.)

So you may ask the Help Desk³….

If that doesn’t work, you may show the VAT receipt you should also have received
to customs.

In any case, you’ll have lost the “broker fee”: the amount the postal/courrier
services charge for calculating and collecting the taxes

Good luck.

2. Remains the tiny little problem of when the VAT-at-reception is calculated
including the VAT-at-point-of-sale (the one already collected by BL). That is,
buy 100, BL charges you 20, customs charges you 24 more, BL refunds you 20, you
lost 4.

3. You can contact the Help Desk here: https://www.bricklink.com/v3/help/contact.page
or here: https://helpdesk.bricklink.com/Main/ (you need to re-register with the
same address as on the main site)
The second site allows to follow your tickets (even if opened the other way).
(Note that the tickets are shown as “closed” as soon as they get an answer.
That doesn’t mean they are closed / dismissed / rejected / ….  It’s just how
the UI works.)
