Hey!

So recently I made an order at a BL store, and I bought a couple of items from
it. I got a message later saying that 1€ from my order was refunded because 2
pieces were actually out of stock, the problem is that the seller filed it as
if them and I agreed on this even though I quite literally never got a message
from them.

The seller then proceeded to immediately mark the order as shipped. My problem
is that I made the order specifically because of a part they had, and I'm
concerned that the part that isn't available happens to be that one part.
Is this even against TOS? Can a seller just go "Oh yeah this was out of stock
so I'mma just pay you back the money for it and then ship it so you can't
cancel or do anything with your order"? It feels sleazy and scummy.

This comes up a lot in the forums and there's no easy answers. The reality
is most of us are AFOL and very few full time businesses. As such mistakes are
common. Apologies to those who don't make mistakes.

One of the best responses is the seller should reach out to the buyer to confirm
if they still want the order. Particularly suited to situations like yours where
the missing piece was what you built your order around. However, sellers have
noted that people don't always read their Bricklink messages. Then the buyer
gets annoyed because the seller has held up shipping waiting for a response.
Possibly leaving negative feedback or NSS. Particularly where the missing item
wasn't critical, but others were. I think this is a good place to start
but if after a day or two without response carry on with refund and ship.

There is another view that holds the selling should do everything possible to
deliver said item to the buyer. For example placing the order themselves. Many
other sellers won't drop ship, because then you haven't delivered to
Paypal address. And many buyers don't confirm when they receive things.
If there's a problem with that shipment whose responsibility is it to sort
out? If you instead order it to your location to reship, the delay would quite
likely also be unacceptable. Sure, if everything goes well it sounds like the
best customer service. There's far too many ways for it not to go perfectly.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I don't think people are trying to be sleazy,
just practical.

Yes, they can unfortunately. BrickLink is a big community with lots of different
kinds of sellers. As the other responder mentioned, some buyers want to be contacted,
and some buyers get upset when you delay the order. There is no hard or fast
rule.

If I were you, I would reach out to the seller and calmly explain your situation.
Let them know a couple options to resolve the issue to your satisfaction.

I would also suggest checking their terms to see if this is normal for them.
Also, check their feedback (and the feedback they have left for others) to get
a sense of their level of customer service.

After that, least favorite their store and move on.
Good luck,
Jen

So the seller didn't even tell you which parts were missing? That's
very unusual.

That is a shame. If i ever screw up like that I offer the person to cancel the
order for exactly the reason you say, the missing part might be the critical
one in their order.

I always ask the buyer first if they want to proceed when some items are missing.
On my terms, I stated that if there's an important piece that would make
the buyer cancel the order, please let me know before hand so I don't have
to continue picking parts.
