| First time buying from here. Bought from 4 different vendors. First 3 were instant
quotes, paid via PayPal directly from the link. Waited a couple days before getting
a quote from 4th vendor. I opened the email. Copied his email address and paid
it via PayPal app directly. I didn't realize I could do it directly here
too. It's been a week since paying and I have not had any updates. Sent a
message with no response. What further steps should I try here before contacting
PayPal/ my cc company? It was a $50 order.

| Unless you accepted the quote the seller has no order from you.
You should really never send payment directly to Paypal as Bricklink will be
unable to collect the sales taxes.

All the best of luck!

| technically the seller cant accept that payment since payment was made offsite.
since taxes are involved the payment has to be made onsite otherwise the seller
technically commits tax fraud by keeping sales tax which is a big no. The solution
would be to wait for a response from the seller as some may take some time for
an answer but ultimately if no response if ever received after multiple messages
you can file a Paypal claim for your money back and then pay onsite but that
is a last resort as Paypal claim hits sellers with a fee and is bad for their
PayPal account but if they never respond that may be a way to get their attention.
also, the email on their profile isn't necessarily the email associated with
their PayPal account. the main reason i stopped accepting etransfers in Canada
is that people would keep sending the money to a different account so it may
be that you simply sent it to an account that isn't theirs in which case
they might not see the payment

Yeah, it's possible the seller has one email address for BL and uses a completely
different one for PayPal, and so hasn't actually received anything in his
or her PayPal account.

It's unclear if your were waiting for an invoice from the seller. If the
fourth vendor did not provide instant checkout, then you should have received
an invoice before paying. You should not pay through paypal directly without
using the link on the invoice, or having an invoice from the seller.
Some sellers take a little bit of time before contacting you with an invoice,
particularly if they have to calculate shipping costs. If it has been more than
three days, you should contact the seller directly through Bricklink messaging
to find out what the hold up is.

place

In the email with the shipping price total at the bottom was his email, name,
etc. and so I made the mistake of using paypal app to pay him via that email.
It showed his name in the app so I knew I was 100% sending to the right person.
Now I know not to pay via paypal unless its via the direct link on this site.
I will give it a day or two and wait for the seller to respond to my messages
on email and via messaging here. But it looks like he's just going to keep
the money and run.

Unless you paid “Friends & Familly” (which you should never do for commercial
transactions), they can’t do that. PayPayl protects you.

Yes, if need be you can submit a claim, again, unless you paid F&F.

Even then, it depends how they paid. If they paid through credit card, they can
still make a claim, and even if the seller has proof of delivery they lose as
it was not a business transaction and not covered under seller protection.
