| Hi!
My store just opened recently and I have sets to add. Some are used and missing
pieces. I’m wondering if it’s better to buy them then sell as complete and used
or just sell as incomplete?
I’d appreciate any feedback from buyers or sellers.
Thanking you in advance,
Karen

Check the likely sales prices and the costs to complete them.

It depends on whether they're using older period era pieces, if the bricks
are an older type a collector should have all of the same type of parts included
in the set. Because finding the same type of piece originally used can be difficult
and time consuming, you might be better off letting collectors decide if they
want an incomplete set, and collect the missing parts themselves.
Incomplete sets must be sold as such, please ensure that the listing is correct
before releasing it for sale in your store.
Cheers ...

Thank you both for your feedback. The most current set I own is from 2007 but
that one is new, never opened. The others are older and I have list of what is
missing and planned to include those lists when I add them to my store. I will
be very upfront about what is missing and what the box looks like. I t probably
would be more difficult to track down the 1970-1990,s versions of the missing
pieces. Funny I have parts missing but a whole lot of extra parts with no set.

You should also know that as a seller you may very well sell parts at a certain
point that you need a week later to complete a set.

I would complete them if they are a set that could sell for a price making it
worth it. If you sell complete you must be sure they are same period.
One thing that may be problematic is "Funny I have parts missing but a whole
lot of extra parts with no set. Kids!" Make sure the parts that you have
are not mangled or damaged.

The used sets have been through three kiddos. Luckily nothing was mangled or
chewed on. I can understand the vacuum getting some of the smaller pieces but
a pirate’s boat???

Kids hide things or trade stuff for candy at school. I have cats that take
parts of models I build and I never know it until I have to put them on the models.
If you have seen Cats, the thief is very much like McCavity.

I’ve heard that about cats. I have one more place to check for the missing parts
and then the sets are going to be posted. Getting a detailed inventory is very
time consuming but important. I tip my hat to all of you who do this as a bigger
business.

Even if you are selling it incomplete its best to list what specifically is missing.
Otherwise people have no way to judge how complete it is. A photo gives some
idea but not the satisfaction you aren’t missing an expensive piece. Bricklink’s
feedback system supports confidence that a buyer gets what’s promised. If you
go through the trouble of doing an inventory check you are well on the way to
completing it.

Right now I have one incomplete set listed and the description of includes exactly
what is missing. The photos are more for the box. My plan is to keep doing that.
I want to be very honest with buyers.
