| Hey guys, just need to get something off my chest.
So ive used bricklink years before… as seller and buyer. I know how it’s supposed
to work.
I recently got back into LEGO again and have been placing many orders.
In all the years before Ive NEVER had so much orders being changed due to lack
of keeping track of inventory….it’s starting to really piss me off.
In the orders I placed last 2 months since I started again….7 out of 30 of those
shops DIDNT have the inventory that I ordered .
Making me YET again have to try to find a shop which has all of the parts… or
in worse chase even 2 or 3, paying for shipping cost once more (which the price
has also heavenly raised in these few years) just to get the right amount of
pieces for my MOC’s just because shops don’t have there inventory in check….
I mean jezus guys come on…Keep that inventory in order!!!!!
It’s really taking the fun out of things.
Now I still debating what I should do.. I just got ANOTHER Shop which requested
me to continue or cancel a large order… where it’s missen 4 items which again
I specially order there cause I needed that curtain amount and are not that common
to come across.
Frustration level is raising.

day and one of them was for about 40 of 1 torso and the seller messaged me saying
they could find about 30 of them...

They fully refunded the order and said if I was interested I could place it again.
Which I did since I really needed the torsos.

Still think they good off easily to be honest… back in the day when this happens
you would get a discount al the least for the inconvenience. Personally I think
if you’re going to sell LEGO your starting a small business.. if something is
wrong, You make it up with the customer… how time has changed.. I feel like now
a days its “well I dont have the parts.. I don’t care I’ll take it of the order
send a “im Sorry” and be done with it.”

yah, if a part is missing its best to refund the full price of the part plus
extra to help cover shipping if purchased elsewhere

Although I understand it can be frustrating when some ordered parts are not in
stock I don't agree that the seller should automatically give an extra discount
or something like that.
Honest mistakes happen, a little understanding from BOTH parties is required
in my opinion.

What is it with Dutch people and wolfpacks?
Anyway, to answer your question, pure speculation here, but I've a theory
that BrickLink has seen a recent influx of amateur sellers that don't have
the same commitment to customer service that more serious AFOLs do.
And as others have pointed out, maintaining an accurate inventory is a challenge
in and of itself. What other website allows you to order exact quantities of
small parts? Small hardware is usually sold by weight or in multiples.
That being said, there are still plenty of amazing sellers here, it just takes
time to find them.

Inventory errors do happen. It's just how they are dealt with that can be
problematic. I placed an order recently and a part was missing, but the seller
just refunded the cost of the part and didn't even bother to tell me, so
I only found out when I was checking it.
As a seller, I very occasionally find a problem, so I try to give my buyers an
option of what to do. Most often they are happy to wait while I source replacement
parts, but that only works if the parts aren't too specialised.
Having said that, it's also a problem generally - I recently went to a local
toy store to buy some 48x48 baseplates that they claimed to have 11 of on their
website only to find that they had zero!

There has been a large influx of new shops since COVID reared its ugly head.
Most of these new shops are still learning how to run a shop and respond to buyer
issues.
If you want to purchase a specialized part, you could always contact the store
and ask them if they have the quantity they have listed.
I do this all the time to make sure the store has the variation of the part I
am looking for. It can be frustrating when 7-10 stores check and say "Sorry,
I had the wrong variation listed." Eventually you will find the right shop
that has what you need.
Good luck!
