| Hi
I am a new seller and I was wondering if any experienced sellers could tell me
why in a transaction that costs $537 and $248 I am receiving in Paypal $498 and
$241? is PayPal taking a cut or is it a bricklink fee?
thanks for the help,

You pay a fee to paypal of approx 3.5%, although this will be higher for international
transactions especially if you take payment in a different currency. Plus a small
fixed fee, but that is negligible compared to the percentage fees on such large
transactions.

You are currently taking payments in these currencies:
Argentine Peso
Australian Dollar
Brazilian Real
Bulgarian Lev
Canadian Dollar
Chinese Yuan
Croatian Kuna
Czech Koruna
Danish Krone
Euro
Guatemalan Quetzal
Hong Kong Dollar
Hungarian Forint
Indian Rupee
Indonesian Rupiah
Israeli New Shekel
Japanese Yen
Macau Pataca
Malaysian Ringgit
Mexican Peso
New Zealand Dollar
Norwegian Kroner
Philippine Peso
Polish Zloty
Pound Sterling
Romanian New Lei
Russian Rouble
Serbian Dinar
Singapore Dollar
South African Rand
South Korean Won
Swedish Krona
Swiss Franc
Taiwan New Dollar
Thai Baht
Turkish Lira
Ukraine Hryvnia
US Dollar
I doubt your sales will be affected much if you don't take payment in Guatemalan
Quetzal and Macau Pataca, or indeed most of those currencies. Every foreign currency
transaction will cost you an extra 2-4% (it varies based on the currencies).
Personally I'd stick with the Aussie Dollar to start with so any currency
conversion fees are paid for on the buyer's side although you will still
pay a fee for taking international transactions (about an extra 1-2% on top of
domestic fees - again it varies).
Check your country's paypal fees page. It will be something like this: https://www.paypal.com/au/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees

On payment you pay Paypal fees directly on the order and shippingcosts, about
4% or thereabouts.
Bricklink takes 3% of the ordervalue but this is at the beginning of every month
and a total of all orders you received in the month prior to that.

Open paypal and look for the details of the transactions. Difference between
amount paid by cutstomer and amount received by you is made up of:
- paypal fixed cost
- paypal variable cost (% of amount)
- currency conversion fee
- sales tax (mentioned in paypal as partner fee)
