| Hello all,
A user wrote me asking for pictures of some items. I sent him a link and he then
placed an order in my shop and left it open. I don't have the option enabled,
but I have IBAN payment set up and he attached a message saying that he had chosen
IBAN to keep the order open and would switch to paypal when ready to pay.
I then replied to his message telling him that he shouldn't leave his order
open for more than a few days. I didn't say anything about the fact that
he kind of "hacked" the system to force it into leaving his order open.
I had no answer from him in 2 days so I messaged him again, telling that I would
ask for a cancellation if I didn't hear from him by monday (today). He didn't
reply, but added an item to his order and still didn't pay.
Now, when I go to the order, I have the option to "request to cancel",
but I didn't do anything, didn't file any NPB, and I haven't got
any notification that he asked to cancel the order... I don't understand
why it popped out of nowhere but I'm tempted to click. I also gave him a
positive feedback by error when doing a mass feedback post haha.
He placed the order on jan 4th, so maybe I should wait a bit more, what would
you do?

|
| the request to cancel option is there for every order. it's best to wait
until you can file an NPB after 7 days to protect yourself against a negative
feedback.
you can delete the feedback you accidentally left here

No he didn't hack anything.
You're hurry? You lose money and buyers.
Otherwise in 7, 15 or 30 days, open an NPB when it becomes a real "problem"?

I may be mistaken but as all my shipping methods are set to instant checkout,
I thought that it was not possible to leave orders open. I didn't really
think about it though, because I never had the case before.

It may be too soon to file a NPB, and you're right, maybe I should sit back
and wait a few more days. The fact is my store is pretty modest, and he ordered
items that are good sellers in my store and are now unavailable to other potential
buyers. Hence why I'm tempted to cancel the order.
Considering how successful your store is, I think I'll follow your advice
though

IBAN is not onsite even though it is instant checkout. I'd agree that the
buyer has used a hack to get more time to pay if they selected an IBAN option
when they intend to pay through PayPal, as the selected method holds the items
to give them more time to pay when selecting the payment method they will use
would not.
If you dont want them keep adding in multiple batches, you can mark the order
as packed and that would mean they cannot add to it. After your time limit, invoice
them with IBAN information as that is what they selected.

Strictly speaking, it’s auto-invoice-able, as Instant Checkout = Auto-Invoice
+ Onsite Payment.

Yes, the buyer could at least have asked the seller before doing that.
If a seller wants to allow keep-open orders, they can. If they don’t, that means
they don’t want such orders.

If I mark the order as packed, doesn't it automatically mark it as paid too?

This used to be an issue (years ago) when changing order statuses on the "Orders
Received" page. If however you click the Order Number, then at the bottom
click "Edit Order", from that page change the order status and then click
"Save Changes", it will not effect the payment status.

Thanks!
The key is: whatever you think the buyer did, or he did, a buyer is more precious
than almost any lot.
A buyer can be your friend one day, or a support for your shop.
Some here have placed 130+ orders, and may have started with a 1€ problematic
one
Try to discuss, if no reply wait for the NPB + eventual extra (life accidents
can happen), and then process.
This may also avoid you a nice red feedback after reacting too quickly

| Thank you all for your answers and advices. Your help is really appreciated!
I'll wait a few more days because the buyer seemed to really want the items,
then I'll mark as packed and ask for payment as suggested.
