| Sorry if there are posts on this already - I found lots on how to clean and remove
smells.
My issue is different. I have noticed when buying old Lego and storing my own,
the bricks often take on a sickly / plastic smell. I think it is simply an aging
of plastic thing. When I buy job lots I notice it most and get a big whiff of
stale plastic when opening boxes.
I am about to need to store a large collection (all SH and SW figures) for over
a year and wanted any tips on how to ensure the figures don't take on or
develop this aroma.
Any long term smell free storage recommendations please!!!

| Older CA plastic is very prone to give off smells which I liken to vinegar when
stored.
Still not sure how to keep these, box or bags left open helps but won’t prevent
it altogether.
Not sure what’s causing the smell for you, never had a problem with newer plastics,
ABS etc.

I’m not a chemist but I’d say it’s logical an acetate (of cellulose) could degrade
into acetic acid (= vinegar).

Yep. I’ve a good nose but I never smelt anything with ABS either.
But then, smell is a very complex sense.

| That’s how I understand it, like early film ( different cellulose makeup ), some
of the CA degrades, fortunately not as violently as the film.
Won’t be adding them to my chips anytime soon.

| Thanks all
I keep comics, too and use BCW archival quality Mylar. I think I need to invent
something similar for my figures 😀

I think it's likely the storage bins and not the old LEGO plastic generating
the smell. Aside from the tires, LEGO is made from fairly stable stuff.
