| I'm relatively new to selling here and I have a dumb question. I have an
order that's sitting at "Shipped" status for a package that was delivered
nearly two weeks ago. My messages to the buyer to confirm delivery and make sure
everything got there OK haven't been read. I see that I *can* update the
status to Completed, but *when* (if ever) should I do that? Thanks for any advice
you have.

Leave it and file the order.
Maye the buyer hasn't had the time to check the shipment.

Just file it and don't worry about it, above all don't update to "Completed"
or contact the buyer about it any more.

My terms of service states that they have two weeks to check their order and
report any issues. After two weeks the order will be considered closed. (I'm
a bit OCD and I can't tolerate unfinished business which is a bad fit for
this business! LOL). If they do not respond after two weeks, I write a note on
the order that the buyer did not complete nor leave feedback (that's a private
note to myself, not public feedback), or that the buyer marked it Received...
but did not leave feedback. I then post feedback thanking them for choosing my
store and I would appreciate their feedback. Weeks, even months later, I may
get some random feedback on orders completed eons ago. But I have already filed
them and moved on 2 weeks after the item was delivered. I also track EVERY order
via Informed Delivery on USPS.com. If you don't know about that service,
go check it out. Not only does it automatically tell you when you are about to
receive a package, but you can also log in the tracking numbers from your shipments
and it will let you know when your packages are delivered. I find that very valuable
in knowing when to complete an order. Like I said, I track them for two weeks
post-delivery, and then I archive it. It also helps when I get a customer saying
"Where's my package? It should have been here days ago!" "Well, sir (or ma'am)
your package is on a runway in Honolulu. It's gonna be a bit delayed!" Message
me if you have any more questions.

Why do you need to mark an order Completed to file it? It's the customers'
prerogative and why take that choice away?

wow i just looked.
"We ship ALL orders as soon as possible. If you want to jump the line, you're
gonna have to grease our palm a little"
I mean thats a bit weird.
"NOTE: I have been experiencing significant damage to items purchased directly
from Lego. Please be advised that they are having quality control issues."
Lego often has quality issues but I cant say that I know of any major issue that
happeing more so then normal.
"Once you receive your order, you will have 14 days to report any problems with
your order."
customers have 180 from time of payment if any issues arrive
"If I have had no response from you after 14 days, I will mark the transaction
"COMPLETE""
thats the customer's job to do if/when they are ready
"All sales are final 14 days from the date of delivery."
The same thing mentioned above
"refunds will NOT be issued for packages lost or misdirected if insurance was
not purchased."
all i can say is good luck with those paypal or bank claims...
"if you bypass mediation through BrickLink or PayPal and go directly to your
credit card company and have the charges reversed, I will file a claim in Small
Claims Court and have you served and will file a Non-Paying Buyer alert with
Bricklink."
wow just wow

|
its "controversial" since its not the sellers job. its the buyers. many people
myself included often have order sitting for many weeks before we even get to
them or if we are still waiting for it to arrive and then it no longer shows
as "Order shipped, change status" and now no notification since the seller marked
is as complete is not a nice thing to do in the slightest and can only cause
issues

Then why are sellers given the option to change the status to complete?
|
are you really asking why the bricklink site is the way it is
| | many people myself included often have order sitting for many weeks before we even get to them
|
that's not the seller's problem though, once an order is delivered, the
seller's obligation is fulfilled, and their part is complete; it's the
buyer's duty to at least inspect the order once it arrives, not let it sit
for weeks after delivery
|
as you stated the SELLERS responsibility is complete but the order status is
also something the buyer has control over. the buyer gets to the order when they
have time and if the seller starts changing status for the sole reason of that
they are finished with it then why give the buyer the option to change the status
at all? and how is the sellers obligation done if the order hasn't been confirmed
yet by the buyer? it could be missing parts it could have damaged parts or something
else. maybe you even shipped them the wrong order. there are many things that
can go wrong so buyers should have the final say when its complete
| | or if we are still waiting for it to arrive and then it no longer shows as "Order shipped, change status" and now no notification since the seller marked is as complete is not a nice thing to do in the slightest and can only cause issues
|
If tracking shows delivered and the buyer doesn't contact a week or 2 after
the delivery, then it's safe to assume they were happy with it and you can
mark it as complete; same applies to non-tracked orders, if it's been 30
days since the order was shipped and the buyer doesn't message, then it's
safe to assume they've received it and the order can be marked complete
|
that's not something that is "safe" to assume. I've had order sit for
many weeks and when I get around to them i find parts with bitemarks and cracks
and have to still contact the seller about it. as a buyer i specifically don't
change the status to complete until i know everything regarding that order is
finished and if a seller changes it since they now feel it is complete then that's
just sad
| I also highly doubt most buyers will pay attention to a blinking green dot telling
them to update the order status when a lot of them don't even bother to leave
feedback or mark the order complete, which isn't a problem, but I personally
don't like to leave orders hanging months after it was placed
|
they arent "hanging" for months. you can file them if you want but taking that
choice away from the buyer for reasons that only affect you is bad business
|

|
It's historical, 2000... you know?
| that's not the seller's problem though, once an order is delivered, the

|
Absolutely not!
You could send 2 pounds of sand, delivered or not isn't the problem - it's
(very probably not) what the Buyer ordered.
| it's the buyer's duty to at least inspect the order once it arrives, not let it sit
for weeks after delivery
|
Buyers can be busy, or have problems.
I can't see no text that shows merchandise should be inspected promptly.
For PayPal/Visa (?) it's 6 months for a complain.
For pros here in EU/FR it's maybe 2 years - I'm not sure, though, but
it's long.
| I also highly doubt most buyers will pay attention to a blinking green dot telling

|
Because "hanging" is your (you only) definition for "not marked Completed".
Your Completed may not be the same Completed for the buyer, and he still can
complain after your said delay.
Why bother a status which does only mean to you? Set it archived, problem solved.
Personaly I don't care, do as you wish, but you asked why.

As:
1) You don't need to set this status: you can file the order as is, if you
don't wish to see it anymore.
2) The Buyer should be able to decide if the transaction is complete(d) or
not, even if he was in hospital for 1 month in between.
No hard feeling hey - but I think it's not the Seller's role.

It's frustrating AF when you're starting out and trying to gain some
clout. I know this isn't feedback related but there is a correlation.
In the past week I got a person who received their shipment that has 180+ feedback
received but 0 feedback left for other bricklinkers.
I've got another one that has 380+ and has only ever left 17 feedbacks.
So for those two; I'm never going to hear from them again. I'll give
them a few days and then just mark as completed and get them off my board.
here are my terms:
FEEDBACK
I'll leave feedback once I know you're fully satisfied with your order.
I can communicate a lot and I know some people just don't want to be bothered
with emails, so if you leave positive feedback and move your order to "completed"
status, I'll assume everything is golden. Otherwise I'm very on top
of emails so PM or email me if you have any concerns.

Why do you need to mark them as complete? File them, and they are gone from your
active orders list, whether they are marked complete or not.
If you know they are not going to give feedback to you, you can either give them
feedback any way or choose not to give them feedback. I doubt they care either
way.
