| I like the idea of MY Collection: a place to keep track of parts, especially
when you are a MOC-er, like me.
Unfortunately it looks like this was 'developed' and written by someone's
11 year old nephew 'who is smart with computers'.
ONE
Wouldn't it be nice and very useful (and logical) if you could add a recent
Bricklink order you placed to your collection? Sure!
But you can't.
TWO
OK, I'll try something else: the import function. I downloaded my recent
orders as a XML and CSV. Now I can add all those parts to my collection!
Unfortunately, you can't, it just doesn't work.
THREE
^ I see, too bad. But let's try a wanted list. You can download a wanted
list as XML file. Now I upload this to my collection, easy peasy lemon squeezy,
right?
Oh my, it won't import.
So what's left of this feature?
Nothing.
What you can do is part out a set to your collection. It does it quickly,
hooray! But then? All you get is a list of parts (maximum 200 per page) but you
can't do anything with it.
You cannot:
- sort
- search
- add notes about location
- perform any other operation upon the items in your collection
The only thing you can do is binge watching your parts. I have around 131,198
parts in my collection (according to Rebrickable, a great site!). And this is
only from sets I own. I own another 200,000 parts from Bricklink orders (rough
estimate).
Basically it comes down to netflixing / binge watching your parts. 200 per page,
300,000 parts divided by 200 is 1,500 screens to watch. Click next screen. Click
next screen....
For some reason I get the idea that Bricklink, owned by the largest toy company
in the world - which we all love, otherwise we weren't here - doesn't
take us seriously.
My hands are itching to offer myself as a software developer at Bricklink but
I'm afraid I have to talk to that nephew of 11 year old.
Sarcasm included, but really....

| I totally agree. I'm trying to export my exel set list to csv and import
it. Does not work. No matter what I do. Tried it with a handcraftet CSV according
to the "guidlines". Does not work anyways.
So I gave up now as I can not see what will be the benefit of this collection.

Exaggeration!
It’s 200 lots per page. You don’t have 300,000 lots. Most likely 5,000
to 10,000 lots.
That’s only 50 pages!

I was wondering where this feature came from and what it is for. My first guess
was that it could potentially be for uploading inventory without opening a store
then someway offering that inventory for sale offsite avoiding seller fees but
then... perhaps not the idea!

It is for data mining. Anything that has been done here recently is only for
data mining, you are being used to gather data and then that data will be sold
to "partners."

Says the person from the US, and not in California, where the GDPR and CCPA do
not apply. Lego can and will collect the data, then use what they can and sell
what they can, often sold multiple times.
Data mining was my job before I became a seller. It is disgusting what they do
vs what they say, thus the reason I do not participate anymore.

I agree with a lot of your points. There's really good potential in a My
Collection feature that just isn't being realized yet. But all those functionalities
probably take a long time to develop. Especially when integrating with something
like purchases. Let's not forget BrickLink's "Spaghetti Code" handicap.

| I didn't know the export/import didn't work. That's a shame. But
that is obviously just a mistake. They intend for it to work. Something just
went wrong.
I would definitely like a remarks field, if not dedicated fields for location
and source. I'd like to be able to go back later and have a solid reason
to think this minifig came from this set, so what we need to know about it can
be gained from looking at my minifig. And beyond that I would like to be able
to look at "My Collection" and then walk straight to where my items are. This
is a feature that I strongly request in a future update.
But it isn't useless as is now. I am a parts collector and I commonly buy
things from my inventory for my collection. I actually buy sets on purpose to
do that. And I frequently put "#need?" in my remarks and keep lots in the stockroom
until a time that I sit down and check if I have that piece in my collection
already. Years ago I could have started putting everything at Rebrickable so
I could cross reference, but it will be MUCH more convenient for the catalog
page for the piece to tell me I have it. There is one hiccup still in that function,
but I think it will be addressed also.
I have really wanted this feature and I am disappointed at the way it is being
received. I share frustration that it didn't launch with more features,
but this is a project that was done to help collectors. I am grateful.
