Sorry if this has been asked before, I am in the process of opening a new store
and have some doubts regarding VAT (Germany)

From German laws, small business are not obligated to collect VAT on their sales
(unless you sold more than 22k last year)

So how does it work if BrickLink collect/charges you for VAT on the products
you sell? Is there a way to waive that VAT charge or get some sort of refund?

For your case, as a seller in EU, if the buyer is:

in EU: there’s no VAT.  BL doesn’t collect/charges anything. (Note that,
if you sell for more than €10_000 to EU (excluding Germany), you’ll have to collect
VAT… but BL only verify if you do, BL never collects VAT for that.)

in the UK (but not Northern Ireland): there’s UK VAT.  It’s paid by the
buyer directly¹ to BrickLink, you have nothing to do with it².  (That’s if the
amount is below £135.  Above £135, the buyer pays at reception.)

in the USA: there’s Sales tax in most states.  It’s paid by the buyer
directly¹ to BrickLink, you have nothing to do with it.

Other countries (Canada…) will be added soon, on the same principle as UK or
the USA.

¹ Well, as it goes through PayPal or Stripe, you’ll pay PayPal or Stripe’s fees
on the grand total, including the taxes.

² Except: use BL’s VAT number on the CN-22A and join the invoice BL will e-mail
you.
