Hi all,

it strikes me that some items are in the catalogue and sellers do not use a tier
pricing, but a new listing instead.

For example:

Catalog: Parts: Minifigure, Headgear: 88287: Price Guide

https://www.bricklink.com/catalogPG.asp?P=88287&colorID=1

but all listings except 1 are from the same seller!!

I understand these could be different batches, but it would be nice if a seller
would use a tier price instead.

Or am I just OCD on this one?

Have fun

It's the very annoying result of sellers who don't consolidate when they
part out. Also, stores that use location based remarks tend to create a new entry
of every single lot. There's no rule against it though. You might want to
Least Favorite them so they won't show up in your searches.

There are at least five different sellers of that part / colour. If you don't
want to a particular store's items, then least favourite the store. Then
they won't bother you again. That store regularly does it across many types
of parts.

There are reasons for having multiple listings, such as different storage locations,
pre-bagged fixed number lots, different cost prices, even different owners if
they are selling for others on commission. Policing that type of thing would
be very impractical.

If feel sympathy for your idea. I always hate it when I'm visiting a shop
that (seemingly) has over 10,000 lots but in reality they only have 1,492 different
parts because they didn't consolidate lots (for whatever reason).

Your suggestion will however not be implemented because sellers have the freedom
to do this for a multiple of reasons. But I agree with you this can be confusing
for buyers.

As for the price guide - the price of the items displayed - it shouldn't
make a large difference.

The only advice I could give you is to live with it.

As the others said; it's legit even if sometimes boring, or like here
a real pain.

Problem with showing say the cheapest lot of each Shop would be multiple.

One of them would be that all those numbers would be either corrected to what
it's showing (ex: Total Qty: 36, which would be wrong) or showing the total
number (ex: Total Qty: 389 then people won't comprehend those numbers and
showing only 2 lots of 6 and 30)...

One solution could be to simply add an extra line:
Total Shops: 2

There are a couple of different perspectives on the tier vs multiple listings
model.

Tiers might be configured for pre-counted batches of parts, where the seller
can fill them more quickly than loose. I can also see some sellers stacking prices,
where the first copy of the set goes at $25, the next at $30, etc. That is, not
so much a tier, but an incremental price bump as the items sell. There are also
fine gradations in the quality of the listed item, which might dictate a different
listing (and price).

I agree.

For me, sometimes I'll have a few of something in one spot and want to not
combine them so list a new lot elsewhere at a different price, and might also
have a bulk option - but, I find it incredibly excessive when it is SO MANY especially
for parts. Sets I understand more, but parts it can be a bit ridiculous when
some of that could easily be nested - but then I wonder if it's situations
of where items are stored, etc. (Some inventories can be a bit complex with not
enough remarks notes, but I should hope it's not that way for every part
in one's store, LOL).

This all comes back to the old argument about consolidation. I do not consolidate,
as I can be a lot more productive when it comes to listing items. It just depends
on what works best for the seller.

Here's why you should consolidate.

You have 18 black 2x4 bricks in your store. They're separated into 3 lots:
1x14, 1x2 and another 1x2.

When someone's wanted list contains 15 of those bricks your store wouldn't
shop up. Because Wanted Lists look at lots and you have only 14 at the max --
while you own 18.

I also fail to see the reason why you separated those lots: they all have the
extended description 'minor wear' but the prices are different. So what
can I expect as a buyer when I order a black brick for 14.4 cents or 10.8 or
12.0 cents? What's the difference?

I remember this suggestion being posted almost 20 years ago.

Most sellers who do this use different batches to clean out inventory. For example,
when a batch hits a month old, they will lower the price 15%, which helps prevent
inventory from getting stale. Brickina would be one example. https://store.bricklink.com/brickina

Other sellers do it because in the short run, it is faster to part out everything
into new lots instead of consolidating into your existing storage tubs. Long
term though, this creates more work when orders are actually picked.

And some sellers never actually figured out that you can consolidate lots.
