There is no set to them, early on LEGO made several loose items, like these ducks
or some call them swans.
They did not really have an idea of where to go yet, so they tried several things.
They were just general toy makers until they stumbled upon Kiddicraft bricks
from Hillary Page.
Copied them and started making the system we now know.

Nice collection of what appear more like swans than ducks, to me anyway.
Especially looking at the larger sample, you really recognize the "swan" neck,
head and bill shapes. Beautiful mold, btw!

I really believe there is more knowledge on here about LEGO history than they
know themselves.
Unfortunately we lost the LEGO historian on here due to some shady business,
but his dvd should be on any LEGO employee’s computer.
And to get into my own specialty, LEGO hardly has any knowledge about the test
bricks.
(or are not letting anything out…)
BrickLink could open up some space for general LEGO knowledge, picture with text
about these swans for instance.
Lots of people have no idea what is out there.

The LEGO group, on display in their museum...
|
A company-owned product museum?
Have you been there? What's it like?
And Maxx: Have you been there, too? Do you possess items they do not?
|
|
Haven’t been there yet, but I have seen lots of pictures and know many that did
go there.
I have several items I don’t think they have, remember, they lost a lot through
fire.
And in the beginning they weren’t busy keeping track of everything they made,
they were simply surviving.
|
If you do, Maximillian, calculate a trade. I'm sure as a company enterprise,
they've a curator on payroll running it. Someone that's able to negotiate
such things without needing further approval.
|
I have had some luck with reaching people on the inside over the years, but often
we know more than they do.
Even over the simple stuff…
If they want, they can get a lot of info and test bricks from me, but I guess
they aren’t interested
About more items I have, not all is photographed, but a lot is on my Flickr account:

That is what posting a nice item does, BrickLink really should have a better
page for such items.
Unless you know where to look, you will miss a lot of great stuff.
This came to me in a bulk lot yes, I believe from someone living near Billund.
I have one left, but it has less marbling, still nice though
