| When I search for "wanted items" via the in store filter, Bricklink displays
all my wwanted items that store sells. great. however it includes items I already
have and have marked as "have". how do I stop displaying already owned items
without deleting them from my wanted list? I'm keeping them for reference.

I don't think you can, within BrickLink.
Either remove or not, but you can't "hide" if it's still existing in
WL.
For your reference, better use BrickStore, it's free and open-source, and
a zillion times more powerful (and saves your files locally...)

| Create another wanted list called "bought", when you've ordered, move from
wanted to "bought" and when received, delete those, that way your wanted list
is clean

Yes, but in a shop as the OP said, this "bought" will still be visible.
Unless you uncheck it manually every time.
So it doesn't change anything.

| I have about 30 wanted lists going, it may have a single extra step, but it works
pretty well for me
