| I'm sorry I didn't know where to put this. I recently contacted a seller
(blue brick rating) about a high value minifig (95 USD for used) and asked for
photos. They responded with photos that showed the torso missing a very distinctive
pattern. Considering the price and I guess relative fame of this piece, am I
overthinking things when I find this kinda suspect? Is there something I should
do about this? What's goin on here?

| I know people say to ask for pictures, but I tend to rely more on what they say.
Unless they're very good at capturing their fig (which I know I'm not),
many details, such as or are metallic patterns don't show up as clearly
as they do in person. They're explanation of the fig should be more than
enough to file a PayPal claim on if not accurate. I've seen cases were a
fig such as Amidala looked like it had a plain red front, only to get it and
be nearly pristine.

It might be worth advising the community which torso/minifig you are referring
to and which part of the pattern you believe to be missing so that someone can
assist further after all it might be a known variant or simply a very similar
looking torso that is legitamte but not correct for the minifigure in question

Without "details" like shop, feedback profile, specific lot and pictures of the
lot, nobody can help.
Nothing to really worry for now.
But if you're giving a hundred bucks for a Minifigure, you may be yourself
sure of where you're buying. I mean, I'd care, personnaly.

| And there in lies the issue. Everyone is going to be reporting everything they
think is fake. All the head pieces and parts with no markings. Capes that don’t
feel like the one you have. If some one sends you a pic and you don’t like what
you see move on. It doesn’t mean it is fake it could like was mentioned just
be a bad angle or picture. 99.99999% of sellers on here will not knowingly sell
a fake piece or minifigure.

Bricklink/Lego need to get a thinking PR person on staff promptly. This whole
mess was handled poorly, in my not so humble opinion.
Sending out a scamy looking email, with all the telltale signs of a scam (Urgent!
Links! Etc.) when they should have used the vast data at their disposal to target
the suspected sellers, who are now just disappear into the noise by selling
1 or 2 at a time instead of 100s to 1000s. Then, maybe, made a
generic post on the front page of the site.
Where is our community engagement manager in all this? I have not seen @CE_Tanja
post much lately (ZERO posts in July, 3 in June, ZERO in May,
1 in April, 4 in March, pathetic!)
Where are the minutes from the meetings that were supposed to be published every
3 to 6 months from small group of community members (I do not recall what it
was called at the moment!) So much for the promised transparency.
They have shot themselves in the foot with this most recent email. It is all
over the web at this point, with faith in Bricklink eroding day by day.
I usually am supportive of the FT admin and staff, but this was too much, shame
on you!
I was hopeful, and have been quite patient, for things improving here, but I
feel quite hopeless at the moment.
Get it together Bricklink.

| I was under the impression that THE MACHINE would be able to sort out who is
actually a fraud by crunching all the data, not just my little flag that "suspects"
someone of something. Thought I was just being a watchful member of the community.
But if the norm is to just live and let live, well then... noted. There WAS a
reason that I put myself out here instead of the person I suspected. Reactions
have been very informative. Thank you.

I think you're over-estimating Bricklink Admins a bit if you have the impression
there is a "machine" that can "crunch data". Maybe I'm wrong, but I think
they are just reviewing problem reports and trying to do something about them
as quick as possible. That is not at the level of investigating suspicions to
any great depth.
Your original post asked for advice. Based on the information you were able
to share, it did look as though this may be more a case of a disagreement about
an item's condition than an attempt to defraud. The advice would be to keep
on talking to the seller, or move on to another seller.
You can also understand that some sellers would be put off by the idea someone
might report them to Admin for fraud, over a disagreement about quality and condition.
There have been a couple of recent situations that have made people sensitive
about this.
Being a watchful member of the community is great and we need people to keep
on submitting problem reports, but on the other hand we also need trust and communication.
Sometimes that seems a fragile thing.

| Store never got back to me after I asked about the missing pattern.
Regardless of how you feel about the purpose, if any, behind reporting things-
there is importance in simply having the data.
A single flag for suspicious behavior probably shouldn't close a store.
Reports that are erroneous or based on mistaken assumptions would simply be background
noise, the context within which we'd have signals. And you're only going
to get any signals if you have people consistently sounding off.
Something something about due diligence, transparency, and civic responsibility.

Post a picture of the torso and let the hive see it... that doesn’t give up the
store but instead lets us look to make a determination if it’s likely legit or
fake.

All I can say is it was fortunate for you that you asked to see a picture before
purchasing as its clearly missing significant print not to mention the print
on the torso looks blotchy and very sketchy and potentially printed on!
Besides even if the Torso is legitamate even used parts should be expected to
include all the correct printing and be in relatively good shape. Not declaring
these significant flaws especially on a high value minifigure like this is a
selling violation itself!
