I am just wondering if it is okay to put your own print on a Lego tile? I am
starting to see a lot of it on Amazon and just wondering if it is legal to do
so.

It's legal but the purists out there might die inside.

Why wouldn't it be legal?

Now I don't know if it's "allowed" to sell that sort of thing on Amazon,
but if it's a Lego part you own, why wouldn't you be able to modify it
in any way you wanted?

actually no...
"Customized LEGO Minifigures with printed 3rd party logos, names of organizations,
and trademarks are not allowed. It’s not acceptable to use of the registered
Minifigure trademark in combination with 3rd party symbols."
https://www.thebrickfan.com/protecting-the-lego-minifigure-trademark/
but that's more for minifigures but I wouldn't be surprised if they expanded
it to parts

Let's say I have a car and I paint something on it? You would say it's
not allowed? I see no reason why I can't print a LEGO brick/tile if I want
to. You can even buy original LEGO tiles that are printed with a very well known
board game design. Just search for them.

I should have worded it better.
It’s more of a yes and no. I was responding to the line that went something like
“if I own it I should be able to modify it however I like” or something which
is true to an extent but LEGO now won’t let you do that (not sure how they can
enforce it for private use) but I wouldn’t be to surprised if they ever extended
it from not being allowed to do it only in minifigure parts to also not being
allows to put custom logos/trademarks on other parts. So basically it boils down
as long as it isn’t a trademark (even personally owned) on minifigure parts you
should be good. For now...

Well yeah there's a difference between owning something and modifying it
for oneself on the one hand, and modifying it and distributing it on the other.
And tiles are one thing, minifigures another. I think TLG regards the minifigure
itself as a trademark and so they would not want other trademarks on the customized
minifigure. They probably don't mind if you print your company's name
on a tile and give it out as a promotional item.

Carefully cutout a lettered brick's letter and glue them on the piece you
want and then it would be totally Lego. If the glue makes it not Lego then heat
each part so they stick together.
