| Hey everyone,
I had a sale today in which the payment went through immediately to my paypal
and all expenses were covered, but the buyer wasn't charged sales tax. In
the few other sales I have had, the buyers have had to pay the sales tax of their
home state, as have I when I make purchases. I was wondering if anyone had any
idea why the sales tax was $0.00 for this order. The sale was made domestically
within the US. Thanks,
BL

What state? Not all states in the US have sales tax...

There are also additional states that still do not collect internet sales tax
from what I'm reading correctly from a brief google I did.

Just because I was curious, I checked my most recent orders of no sales tax and
most were from addresses were sales tax didn't apply, but I did find one
that should have charged.
Although most likely illegal and not something I have a lot of knowledge in,
but would use of a VPN to a non sales tax paying area cause this?

I believe that sales tax is based on the ship-to address so using a VPN shouldn't
be an issue. Responsibility for collecting and remitting sales tax falls squarely
on the shoulders of BrickLink so there isn't really much you need to worry
about on your end, maybe report it to the admins if you are concerned.

| Correct. I believe BL is currently set-up to collect from buyers of 41 States,
plus the District of Columbia. Though I couldn't say with certainty, as that
info hasn't been updated lately.
|
Not sure if the info is up-to-date, but I count 42 on this page:
https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=2503
Some notable absences from the list are:
1. Alabama
2. Alaska
3. Delaware
4. Mississippi
5. Missouri
6. Montana
7. New Hampshire
8. North Dakota
9. Oregon
Not sure if there are any others.

| There are strong fundamental reasons that it was set-up not to ever become a
State in the Union. It would contradict our Constitution.
On the other hand, you're entirely right, they shouldn't be hit with
what is essentially a State tax.

Most of DC could probably revert back to Maryland.
