What are the odds that Bricklink ends up being a user-friendly marketplace without
varying hidden fees and much more regular instant checkout?

It's not great that I have to read evey seller's terms and conditions,
and then use a calculator, after guessing the shipping, in order to find out
who is actually selling a set for the lowest price.

Well, every seller is an individual person/business with their own rules and
way of operating, so it would be hard to force everyone to change their ways
in order to make things more streamlined as a lot goes into operating a store,
especially at bigger scales

Almost every other selling platform online manages to do it!

What I do think should be forced is the QUOTE option, it shouldn't be optional
for sellers, it should be a mandatory feature to avoid NPB complaints and negative
experiences for both sides

Hard agree.

Could you not agree that LEGO is a unique product?

The variety of items stretches out through decades.

A person could buy 1 teeny-tiny stud or the Death Star and the system must know
how to ship both of those to you... combined.

Other systems work by stacking shipping costs. Consumers pay more.

There is little margin for 'Free Shipping' or Flat Rate Shipping when
one is selling a variety of parts that cost $.05 Buyers don't like high minimum
purchase requirements.

Sellers can be professionals running a shop full-time. Or just a person at home
selling off a few extra bricks.

Sellers work from different countries on different continents with different
tax laws and different postal systems and currencies and banking systems.

On ebay, a seller must decide the size and weight of the 'Lot' they are
listing for sale ahead of time. Here buyers want to create their own lots.

On etsy, sellers enter a predetermined size and weight for each item they sell.
They might have 10s or even 100s of different items to work out. I sell 143,000
items and many have their own shipping requirements. (I have a small shop.) Again,
buyers get to combine any amount of these and my system must magically understand
how to pack them.

To sum up: other online marketplaces sell higher value items where free or flat
rate shipping is feasible. Other online marketplaces don't have the breadth
of the variety we have here. Other online marketplaces don't function worldwide.
Other online marketplaces predetermine what quantities you can buy ie: 1 screw
or an entire box of screws.

Amazons marketplace has figured out how to automate the system with immensely
complicated shipping and payment requirements. They also charge their merchants
on average 15%. BL sellers are charged 3%. How much more would you like to pay
for your LEGO and its shipping?

But sure! One system would be easy to build and is going to work great with all
these factors.

Agreed!
