| What is BL's general policy about using alternate parts when reselling minifigs?
My concern is this: 1 - I list it for sale with the hollow stud, mention it in
the comments for my listing and end up having the listing removed for ToS violation.
or 2 - I don't mention which head I've built the fig with, sell it, and
have an angry buyer because the only linked head is the blocked open stud.
I know this has been brought up in the past, but don't know if any policies
have been set regarding alternate parts.

| Usually minifigures have what I partially circles in the photo in their description
which basically means the figure exists with hollow and blocked heads so to the
best of my knowledge it’s fine to list it with with either. I have sold many
figures with different head types without any problems. Sometimes I have added
what head type it is but not always and it has never caused a listing to be taken
down or any angry buyers. So you should be able to list hollow stud and blocked
open stud interchangeably as generally it just depended on what factory made
the parts which determined if it was hollow or blocked. Solid on the other hand
I would recommend not changing out as it’s more different

| I know that I read a post by a seller who had his figure removed for using the
alternate and listing it in the comments which is why I'm asking. I don't
think I've ever noticed the note at the bottom of the page about b and c
styles, so maybe that is the fix to the issue.
Thanks for pointing it out!

| Glad I could help! my best guess is maybe that person changed out a solid stud
head or maybe a picky buyer reported the listing for a Minifigure that didn't
have that note on the bottom but in general, it should be fine.

It was last year when BL was cracking down on incomplete minifig listings and
a lot of people were complaining about it. I don't know if his listing had
simply gotten caught up in that process or if that fig wasn't allowed an
alternate head.

And if it doesn't have the note and you got it from a sealed set, report
it so that it gets the note.

| I am watching this discussion because I have been wondering the very same thing....mostly
in regards to vintage (solid vs blocked) figures

You are allowed to sell this minifig with either head. See the note at the bottom
of the inventory page:
This minifigure has been found with both the 'b' and 'c' style
head.
Hundreds of minifigs have this distinction. I would encourage you to also include
which head you have in the listing for any buyers who are particular about variants.
Good luck!

| for vintage Minifigures, I would always list it with the version that it says
it has whether it be solid or blocked as there is a bigger difference (at
least from my POV and likely a decent amount of buyers) as opposed to the difference
between hollow and blocked open.

| For vintage figs the story is this:
At first all figs had solid stud heads.
Then Lego had to change this in US market for reasons the head might be swallowed
by a small child = choking hazard. So for that market all heads begun to be blocked
open.
As BrickLink is a US site a lot of vintage figs therefore been listed with locked
open studs.
But here in Europe we still had solid studs for long. Perfect example are all
vintage Castile sets and pirates sets we always got solid studs on our figs.
Eventually all market got the same style heads.
Then someone actually pointed out that if a kid actually would swallow and choke
on a Lego head - the “blocked open stud solution “ would not help very much anyway.
So better for Lego to fill that gap and have a place to properly stamp it’s logo.
And we got hollow stud heads instead.
Then came vented stud head...
