What recourse does one have when you place an order for an item and a seller
tells you that based on your amount of feedback he doesn’t want to sell to you?
I have never seen or heard of anything like this, granted I am new here.
However I have 100+ eBay transactions with a spotless record and 8 purchases
here all very recent.

Just run away - don't lose your time - bad seller, change seller!

That will probably be best. It is a one of a kind item, hard to find, and pricey
but still only in hundreds.

I'm sorry about this. A transaction should be about trust both sides, you
can't be neglected - consider you never see this item
Good luck!

It being an expensive hard to find item might be why they don't want to deal
with a new buyer.

Then don’t post it for sale on an open forum. It isn’t like I was the first
person to see it for sale. It’s been for sale for some time, nobody selected
it, and here I am, a willing buyer. What more could you want other than to draw
in new members to for items they could get excited about. I’m going back to
eBay. Might cost more but sellers don’t try to act like gate keepers

I'm sorry you have run into this issue, but the sellers here are all individuals.
If you want to write off the entire enterprise becuase of that, there ya go.
I going to go out on a limb and suggest that there might be a bad seller or two
on ebay as well.

Good luck,
Jen

I can say this with confidence: 125 transactions on eBay and I’ve never had
a seller get cold feet. 8 on this site and I have had 1 already.

My neighbor has been driving her car around Okotoks daily for 15 years with zero
issues. She drives it to Sherwood Park once, and boom. How's that
for stats?

It just hurts other sellers here. I’m not going to spend years here buying small
parts so that one day I can purchase what I really want. Better to just pay
the tax elsewhere even if prices are higher.

Sadly there's not an option to report a seller for unilaterally cancelling
an order. You can leave negative feedback, but you run the risk of the seller
leaving retaliatory negative feedback because of it. That said feedback is much
more important to sellers than to buyers.

Hi,
I had lots of new buyers on my store, from everywhere, but I never refused anyone.
Lots of them were not comfortable with Bricklink, but hopefully, I never had
problem too !
As said previously, everyone has to start somewhere. If you want feedback, you
have to buy or sell...
Good luck with your research.
Sincerely,

Nicolas

You hit a bad seller unfortunately. I see sellers often asking how they should
respond to a low feedback buyer wanting to order an expensive set. The advice
is almost always: "Sell it. Everyone started at 0. Some people sign up to the
site just for that set.", etc.

You just got unlucky.

Many a scam has been orchestrated by a zero-feedback buyer, but they typically
involve high-value items. If it is a low-value order I see no reason not to ship.

I get this point possibly, but don’t sell here if that is a concern. It’s the
nature of any business. You open a shop on main street and you can’t control
who is coming in and who you sell to. In fact, if you declined sales to people
based on your prejudged characteristics of that group of people then you are
likely to end up sued and possibly arrested. It is a little odd to me that this
site would put up with analogous behavior. Post sale, the seller here is able
to look at your name and where you live and say eh I don’t like how that looks,
I don’t want to deal with that type of person. Its discriminatory.
The seller did not contact me after the sale and then not for days and I suspect
only responded to say he wasn’t selling to me because I both emailed (once) and
called him (once)

Hi there!

BrickLink is the sharpest site on selling LEGO items.

It has an unique Catalog implying half a dozen of specialists, and hundreds of
happy volunteers that makes it the deepest LEGO knowledge and market in the world.

Apart this, 750 000 (maybe) members, and 14 000 shops around the World, along
with a Price Guide that can/should/may help you to decide what the right price
to pay is.

With the smallest fees of any platform - and the buyer always pays the fees (even
indirectly, i n the price).

You've found a stupid amateur somewhere, I'm very sorry about this; you
got no luck.

Please go head, forget this black sheep, and stay here; eBay/Amazon whatever
are far worse - trust me, I'm buying/selling LEGO for 16 years.

Again - please chill and forget, we'll made mistakes, this seller made a
big one, forgive and find better, it's easy (tip: see number of FB, read
FB profile).

Hoping it helps -

Look, no one is really disagreeing with you here, but rather stating that you
shouldn't let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch. I'm sure there are
sellers that do the same thing on Ebay. You just got statistically unlucky and
happened to get one of the very very very few bad sellers here within a short
time.

But also, being slightly discriminatory is a good business practice. I don't
allow users with a negative feedback rating to order from my store. If someone
places a $1k order with my store, and after checking their feedback score I notice
they have a notorious history of starting chargebacks, I'm most likely not
going to go through with it. If I have a physical store, and someone comes in
and tries buying something with money they outright say they stole, I'm probably
not going to accept the purchase. When it comes to avoiding scams and possible
trouble, some sellers are a bit more restrictive and cautious than others. I
don't see anything morally wrong with it. Just pretend that seller doesn't
exist and don't let it hinder your view of this site, especially if that's
the only bad experience you've had.

I have never seen or heard of anything like this, granted I am new here.
However I have 100+ eBay transactions with a spotless record and 8 purchases
here all very recent.

In hearing these types of anecdotal accountings here, there's nearly always
more to the story than presented. Some minutia of what transpired for example:
were you or they asking for more or less, etc and-so-on. Empirically, makes little
sense, iow.

No! I saw set for sale and select set and checked out. I made no attempt to
ask for photos or contact the person before hand, thought the item description
was sufficient. 24-48 hours later I heard nothing so I sent seller an email
‘hey just checking in…’. I checked online for any suggestion that seller was
deceased (you never know right?) Seller has a store which seemed to be active.
I called and left a voicemail ‘hey I bought x, just hoping to hear from you’
very brief. Later that evening I receive an email from seller:

Hey thanks for contacting me. I just got your message on my phone, you did have
the right number!

Ive just been talking with LEGO people about 1. The amount of the order. and
2. The lack of reviews/orders on your BL store. In all honesty Ive been on BL
for [x years] and generally accounts like yours scream red flags. As in, Im most
likely facing a PayPal issue later on that the seller will always lose.

Most likely I will cancel the order
Kind regards,

here all very recent.

In hearing these types of anecdotal accountings here, there's nearly always
more to the story than presented. Some minutia of what transpired for example:
were you or they asking for more or less, etc and-so-on. Empirically, makes little
sense, iow.

I also made a point to show him that I have 8 sizable purchases (not just bags
of 20 common bricks) paid for (most of my purchases are in transit) in addition
to my feedback of only 3. Plus showed my eBay feedback…

Holes can be poked in anything I guess. Would 10,000 positives in the past year
still raise questions? Maybe!

I'm curious about the store you were trying to purchase from. You don't
need to call them out by name, but what is their feedback like? Do they have
hundreds or even thousands of positives? How many negatives do they have?
I would guess that you are not the first buyer they have refused. Could be they
didn't really have the set to sell. Maybe they are one of those stores out
there that have sets in their store, but actually purchase them from somewhere
else to send to you. Which is against the Bricklink rules (I think?). Not selling
to you because of low feedback seems like an easy way out for something else.

I think you are onto something. For being on Brinklink for X number of years,
there was not that much feedback. Feedback in the dozens. That did not add
up. And I wondered if putting a set like the one I wanted in the store was
just a way to get more store traffic. I think an earnest seller would at least
scope me out a little bit, possibly ask what brought me on Brinklink. Offering
no communication once I made the selection just seemed odd.
