Hello community,

I just received a strange request- well at least i have never seen one like this
before.
A buyer ordered, I sent the invoice, he paid - then he sent the following msg:

"I decided to purchase from another seller, but accidentally paid to your shop.
If my order hasn't been shipped yet, could you please cancel it?"

How do you usually proceed in such a case?
Send it anyway or accept the cancellation and pay back?
I dont much mind doing it, but am not sure if it should be done so easily??

Thx for Ur advices!

In short: yes, you should cancel and refund. Legally, a buyer has the right to
cancel.

It's a bit bitter when this happens, because any fees (PayPal) will be for
you. But it's what it is. Better not to think about it, cancel and refund
and move on. And maybe stoplist the buyer. That's up to you.

This is the exact circumstance where, if we had two-step (authorize then capture)
the fees could have been avoided. Two step does work (at least elsewhere) and
has saved fees for me.

Refund is the good choice and shows you are understanding. It does happen.

Thanks a lot for your advice, I refunded.
Then I wanted to cancel the order - changed the status from PAID to PACKED because
in the "problem order" page it said only if i change the status, I will see the
option to cancel the order. Now there is the option "order cancel request" on
the order, but if I click there it opens "problem order" page again. (https://www.bricklink.com/retractOrder.asp?ID=19247123&requestCancel=Y)
if there I view my options, it tells me again, to change the status... I am going
in circles... ))

where do I cancel now?

I believe you need to change the status to "Ready" in order to cancel.

PERFECT! Thanks! That worked out!

maybe that should be updated on the "Order Cancel Request" Help page... as it
says:

If an order is placed and it is not valid, the buyer or seller may file an
Order Cancel Request. To file an Order Cancel Request, go to the Problem Order
page, enter the order ID and the option to file an Order Cancel Request will
appear if the order has status of one of the following:
Pending
Processing
Ready
Updated
Packed
The order status will change to OCR and the seller will have the option to Cancel
the order with no penalty to the buyer. It is strictly up to the seller to decide
whether or not they wish to cancel the order.
