| Now that lego own bricklink why cant we get the new set inventories direct rather
than waiting months for someone to add them then weeks for them to be approved.
surely it would help to streamline the site?

And this...

I know it seems simple to people who have never been involved in an inventory,
but it is just not that simple. There is no 'direct' way to import the
complete information that is required here for accuracy and seller part-outs.

Agreed, but I'd like to add while it's not exactly "simple" it's
not difficult either. Much of the information is already "there" direct from
Lego, the volunteer doing the inventorying is more of an editor or curator than
anything else, IMHO.

With the exception of creating entries for new or patterned parts, you are correct!
*Upload and verify the downloaded data vs the printed data in the instructions
vs the actual parts in your set.
*Check minifig builds and create new entries with images if needed.
*Verify part variants and new PCC's.
*Add new parts to the catalog with images.
*Build the set to confirm parts and extras.
*Double-check everything.
Yep. It's not complicated once you have gone through it a few times. A lot
of us really enjoy the process, and it's very satisfying to contribute something
permanent to the catalog. The part-out process says sellers are responsible
for verifying the parts they upload, but how many actually do? Sellers expect
perfection when they part-out from these inventories as the smallest errors in
variants and extras cause big problems. There is no way to achieve this with
just the data LEGO gives us. That's why I always try and speak up when the
'why-can't-LEGO-just-do-this-now' threads pop up here.

Certainly LEGO could do this. But no one is stopping them and they've shown
no interest in doing it.
I think LEGO should send me sets a couple months before release like they send
them to Jang and TheBrickFan. I could have everything ready to go on day 1.
