I bought a lot of old lego bricks. There was about 50 2x4 bricks. As far as I
can tell they were all lego. But there is one brick which stands out. It doesnt
have a logo. Also when dropping it gently to a wooden table, it makes a metallic
sound. It looks and feels like plastic.

Its the red one in pictures.

Does anyone know what it is?

Does it have any markings underneath, a number, a letter or something else ?

If it has a number then it’s possibly Lego, possibly Prima Lego, if it’s a letter
then it’s what we used to call an x brick or x clone, now known as Bygg Selv
( spelling may be off, keep forgetting ).

Thanks, it has the number 8 underneath. Does it have a catalogue entry? The closest
I find is this one which has Lego logo underneath

Part No: bslot04a Name: Brick 2 x 4 without Bottom Tubes, Slotted (with 2 slots, opposite)

Unfortunately Prima and GEAS Lego do not have separate entries.

You need to list under standard ABB bricks shown in the BL catalogue as classic
bricks with a note and better still with your image of the brick too.

Also note that some of the x bricks come without letters too.

I believe some of these x bricks are mistakenly ( accidental ) listed on BL as
Lego, check out some of the sellers own pictures listed under green, no proof
though, it’s easily done.

Ive never heard about ABC Copex. I did a Google search. It could be this as the
rest of the lot was from mid 50s, and ABC Copex also sold sets at this time.
However, from the pictures it looks like ABC Copex has taller studs. Am I right?
My bricks studs seems to be the same height as lego.

Can’t get to my Copex or Wundersteine ( similar ) at the moment but I still believe
this is an early Lego brick.

My memory of Copex is of a rounded depression in the centre of the studs, more
pronounced than the sag you get with some early Lego studs.

ABC Copex is not compatible with LEGO.

You could say that about early Lego, doesn’t fix very well to modern Lego.

You can see on the picture that the red brick is a bit higher than the lego bricks,
which I have not seen on old lego bricks.

Also a metallic sound, or a sound as if it was made of glass, is not found in
lego bricks.

IMO it is not lego. My best guess is still ABC Copex.

As i can’t get to mine then I will go with you on this, you are more familiar
with these bricks than myself.

I disagree, it looks exactly like a Swedish PRIMA Lego brick to me. They are
also called "target bricks" because of the circles around the tops of half of
the studs. Also, some of them do have a number on the bottom, like the OP's
brick.

You might be right. Sound could be of glass, not metal. Its interesting to hear
your insight. Now Im really confused wether I can list it or not and with what

Early Lego ( Prima/GEAS ) also sounds like glass when gently dropped on a hard
surface.

Perhaps better photo’s of the individual brick might help.

Good images of the studs and the underneath could decide it.

Best of luck,
