Maybe I am missing something but how come a seller will not accept my money via
Paypal. He said due to the cost of the order I have to send the money to his
bank account rather than through paypal but this sounds like a potential scam
to me. For info I am American buying from Russian seller and the dollar amount
is around $250.

Remind the seller that BL needs to collect Washington’s Sales taxes from you,
so you HAVE TO pay through PayPal Onsite (or Stripe).
There’s no way around that.

You are probably best pulling out now. It might not be a scam but has two of
the major hallmarks - bank transfer and international on the other side of the
world tou you from a country where you will have difficulties reporting it.

If they file for non paying buyer, show admins the request to pay by bank transfer
instead of onsite PayPal.

My gut reaction is that raises all kinds of concerns. Please, if at all possible,
stick to sellers that use Instant Checkout and onsite payment (via Stripe or
PayPal). You will be better protected.

Without revealing the seller's name, how long has this seller been on BrickLink
?

Bank transfer is very common for Europe/asia. We don't do it in the USA because
of fees

I've had the opposite happen, old world buyers wanting to pay this way and
me insisting on using paypal

If it's an established seller with good feedback, its likely not a scam request.
That said you have absolutely no recourse if they screw you (well, easy recourse
that is) so I personally wouldn't do it.

It could be bad news even if the seller is not an actual scammer. Not counting
Africa (or Russia-like countries), Russia possibly has the worst postal service
in the world. Talking about incoming mail, anyway. Maybe outgoing is just as
bad. The seller could have figured there's a lot of risk involved and they
have no intention to carry any kind of responsibility for that. Since he's
asking for it exactly because of the value, it's probably that. I wouldn't
do it.
