A seller sent me the wrong color and I sent him a bunch of pictures of his items,
still sealed in the packaging he sent. Now he says he couldn't have made
a mistake and that he thinks I'm lying. What do I do here? Just start a
paypal dispute?

I ordered Medium Orange. The seller sent Bright Light Orange. The seller confirms
that the pictured parts are Bright Light Orange, but is accusing me of swapping
them out: "You can easily swap it out with bright light orange and keep my expensive
parts."

"accusing" is not the most accurate word... perhaps "suggesting"

What a rubbish paranoid seller. You could make exactly the same accusation about
him, plus the fact that he really did send the wrong part.
This is really like standing in an elevator with 1 other person and insisting
that you were not the one who farted.

You can consider starting an NSS if you consider it important enough. Not shipping
part of an order also counts as an NSS. It would at least protect you against
receiving another copy of those 'suggestions' in a negative feedback
post against you.

To be fair, there are just lots of shady people on this platform. It's quite
a contrast with my dealings on little-e as a seller and a prolific buyer.

Thing is... if I put myself in the shoes of the seller, I'm not sure how
I wouldn't realize the mistake. Surely I would figure out what I did wrong...?

Well, I think the forum kind of skews reality because you only get to see the
bad stuff. I've sent out thousands of untracked orders and as far as I know,
nobody tried to pull my leg, even though it would have been extremely easy to
do so.

It's nice that you're trying to be understanding, but I think you deserve
better than to have to waste time on seeing the seller's perspective. It's
not your problem that the seller doesn't realise it. Imagine the customer
service of a large professional webstore replying "well probably you're trying
to scam us"... it's pretty wild. Sure a seller may have suspicions, but if
they feel scamming is a significant issue, then they should take measures (such
as taking pictures of all orders before sending them). If they don't
believe scamming is a significant issue, then they have to believe the customer.
It's either the one or the other.. "I'm not checking anything, but if
you say something is wrong, then I will assume I did it right" is not really
a fair policy

I am aware that I'm inadvertently drawn to erroneous listings in my hunt
for less common pieces. So I generally see the worst that BL has to offer.

There are lots of really, really fantastic sellers on here that I just love:
Fantastic Brick, Brick Takeover, Figsbricks, Finest City Brick, Brock's Bricks,
ryanstore, FunnyFast. I couldn't have gotten this far on my color guide
without them. And then there are countless other sellers that have helped immensely
with various MOCS.

That goes both ways... you could respond: "You easily could've noticed that
you listed it incorrectly but sent the part anyway, planning to accuse me of
swapping it out if I noticed it was wrong so you didn't have to refund me
or replace the part."

In the past, the few times I've been accused of lying about receiving incorrect
parts by an irresponsible seller, I've simply responded: "Well, I didn't,
so you can either provide a solution or I can file a PayPal dispute." The sellers
have always opted for sending a refund.

Give them one more chance to correct it. And if they don't, it is a paypal
claim and negative feedback. Make sure you clearly state that they cannot identify
colours properly as that has led to this problem. That will also make others
think twice about order rarer part/ colour combinations if they read feedback.

I'm afraid I already started a Paypal dispute, as suggested by folks on the
discord (it was a while before I got a response on this thread).

To me Bright Light Orange and Medium Orange are very different. I gotta wonder
what their inventory system is like. Then again, I don't have much Lego,
so I can still store everything in bags by color.

Filing a PayPal dispute is like picking up a loaded gun and pointing it at someone.
Take a deep breath, count to 100 if need be. Please don't cause anything
to spin further out of hand than it already is. Discord is an in the moment
communications medium. Sometimes things are said that should not have been said,
if everyone thought about it for a little longer.

Tell the seller that you want an adjustment. If they still drag their feet (and
offer nothing), then let the dispute run it's course. Good luck.

P.S. what part number was it (in Medium Orange) ?

I do not have any 3001 in Medium Orange. I do have a few of these. Let me know
if you want me to send you a couple ...

No, that's okay. I've ordered 2 new ones from another seller and I'll
find a 4th somewhere else (I have one non-Bayer Medium Orange 2x4 on hand already).

Their feedback would be an issue for me.

Yeah. I was surprised by that. The last seller I had issues with has abysmal
feedback (the logic for that purchase was that most complaints were regarding
shipped orders and I did an in-person transaction).

If its the person who negged you, don't take it personally, they seem to
have a personal issue...

send them back and have paypal refund you. They will side with you.
