| I was wondering since tomorrow, USPS will increase prices on most shipping methods.
If I have it set up where Bricklink automatically charges customers the prices
via the weight table, will that be updated and reflect the new prices for shipping?
I don't want to lose money if it doesn't. Thanks for any help!

Not sure what you are talking about. I set my own USPS prices and I have already
adjusted for the increase. BL & USPS are not intertwined so if you don't
want to take a loss on shipping I suggest you make sure your rates are in line
with any increases.

| Unfortunately not. For better or for worse, shipping methods are manually entered,
including the weight tables.
This means most of the shipping methods you can currently borrow from other sellers
are already obsolete, incomplete, inaccurate or a mix of all three.
If you do not want to lose money on shipping at all, switch to Invoice only (like
I do) which allows you to charge shipping to the exact cent you spent on it.
Instant Checkout is meant to be convenient for buyers, at a marginal cost for
sellers when automatic shipping charges aren't set up properly.
Especially with First-Class Package where domestic zoning isn't supported
in the Bricklink shipping method weight table, US sellers have to pick a single
cost for each weight band for all of the US. It can be the average of zone prices,
it can be the maximum possible, but there's no exact correspondence with
USPS prices, especially not when they change.
Good luck updating your shipping method, I suggest you get to it soon!

In a perfect world, BrickLink would have something called Carrier API, which
actually calls the USPS / UPS / FedEx / DHL APIs.
What we have is something called Carrier API, which is based on tables that were
loaded several years back, and have never been updated. Anyone using the existing
Carrier API is getting badly outdated postage rates.

This is not exactly true. I am using the Carrier API option (also domestic only,
instant checkout) and it charges correct based on current USPS prices. I was
hesitant to try it at first, given the visible table is badly outdated, but the
first order that came through was invoiced and buyer paid the correct amount.
BL could do a better job at updating their visible table on the shipping method
page, and it would be nice if it would do the same for Priority and not just
First Class Package, but the Carrier API option has been charging the correct
postage amount.

How is it checking for and charging the correct amount without location data?

To correctly calculate postage you need all of the following:
Exact weight (in ounces)
Dispatch zip code
Destination zip code
Date of mailing
Precise class of service (FCPS, PM, PME combined with retail, commercial base
or commercial plus)
Correct dimensions of package being shipped
If any of those are missing, it may possibly return an incorrect postage rate.
