I just had my first experience with PayPal ship station and it sucks.

You have to enter dimensions for EVERY FLIPPING PACKAGE!

It ships in my name with my company name, something I prefer not to do.

It insists on correcting every address that I had to ship to this morning.

It prints the label in a different orientation which impacts my process of adding
the order number to the label.

I could not find a way to add a note for the customer to let them know the package
is on the way.

You get two e-mails for each label, the label itself and a receipt for said label.

You have to give it permissions to see just about everything in your PayPal account,
which makes me a bit uncomfortable.

I feel like there must be some pros to the new system, but I am having a very
hard time finding them.

I was going to suggest you try PirateShip, but PirateShip already does some of
the stuff you listed below that you hate (dimensions, correcting addresses [though
this can be overridden]).

Can you add insurance to first class packages?

Yeah, they have a 3rd party service, Shipsurance, that is cheaper than USPS insurance.

How very very odd. Out of curiosity, I just printed a label for tomorrow, but
it went to the tried and true Pitney Bowes. I wonder if they're rolling it
out to select individuals early.

Do you have a Business or Personal account ?

Business account, and my wife does as well, she has not been converted over either
yet.

Way back in the earliest days of PayPal, there used to be three account types,
one was personal, one was business, and one was some kind of enhanced personal.
That's where I ended up. I may be one of the few that never upgraded to business.

The "enhanced personal" was called Premier, I think, and that is what I had (and
maybe still have)

You can print it from ship station, but you get it as an attachment as well.
I'm not using them anymore, I cancelled all my labels this morning and am
now using pirate ship. Whom I've found to be helpful and has a great interface,
and less expensive private insurance as well ($50 for .75, then .80 per $100
domestic and $1.35 per $100 international.)

Customer service is awesome, I just added my employee to the site so they can
print postage as well. Easy peasy.

If I decide to go that route, I will only give PS a virtual card number (as all
the payments will be card not present). I will not give them the actual card
number, and I did check with their customer service on this topic. Back in February
one of my cards was breached (where was never determined), twice in 30 days.
Color me paranoid.

Sorry about all of this, for the shipping notification to the buyer I prefer
to use the "Thank you, Drive Thru!" email feature in BrickLink, since there can
be several hours between the creation of the label and the actual shipping.

Since I have disabled sending a notification to the buyer when I purchase a label
from PayPal, its removal in Shipstation wouldn't affect my own workflow.

But I feel you for all the rest. Especially the double email for the receipt
and the label, for some reason.

I use the drive thru as well since I believe it is better to over communicate,
than to under communicate.

PayPal lied when they said we would not be impacted by this change since they
do not provide a way to add insurance beyond what is provided by default by USPS
($100 on Priority/Priority Express) and nothing for FCP. Which is a big issue
for me, since I require it for any purchased over $50, and most of my current
items that ship priority are over $100.

True, since it is an opt-in feature, you do not have to change a thing.

Ah, yes, I've been using InsurePost (https://www.insurepost.com) instead
of USPS insurance so I've never the insurance inside of the PayPal label
creation form but again, it's a setback for you.

Glad you found your solace in PirateShip, I don't have nearly enough sales
volume for it to be interesting to me yet.

I don't know, I just know they do not appear like they used to appear. I
save mine to pdf and then edit the bricklink order number on to them. I did
not try to print any this morning. YMMV

I use the "Rubber Stamp" area in Pirate Ship to fill in the BL order number.

I did that today as well, works great. Pirate ship also had some fantastic reports
available and you can see tracking status right on your dashboard. PayPal shipping
was never this good.

Thanks for suggesting I give it a try. I can live with the address correction
since it also allows pasting from the clipboard for name and address and saving
of package types/dimensions. They obviously have some good UX folks on board.

I printed labels like normal today . I do recall a blurb on the screen about
how it was going to change to shipstation, but I've been seeing that for-ev-er
so I didn't think anything of it.

I do not have a "business" paypal account. If that matters.

I do not have a "business" paypal account. If that matters.

I saw the notification there for a while too! I though it wasn't ever going
to change. Then as soon as I went to show my employee how to print labels, it
had changed. I asked them to start sorting while I figured out what was going
on. Needless to say, I'm having to define and learn the new process before
I can document it for their training. *sigh*

I can't purchase First Class Shipping. It's only Flat Rate and Priority??

Make sure the weight is not over a pound, and is set to ounces. Or use pirate
ship.

Mine is still the same as of this post. I'm guessing this got rolled out
for bussiness accounts first and they've left the "personal" accounts alone.

Paypal hounded me for years to change over, and (at the time, might be different
now) I googled the differences and the concensus was it was just a slightly different
interface so I never bothered. It quit hounding me and I forgot all about it.

yay me, I guess??

Mine is business, sometime around 2018 my paypal glitched and it would not let
me print shipping labels.
One suggested solution in an online forum said to switch to business, so I did
and that worked.
However, I'm still on the old style of paypal shipping.

A couple of months back, when the news of ShipStation first broke, someone over
on eCRATER called PayPal and grilled them heavily, and PayPal insisted that it
was not going to require a subscription.

Now, the unanswered question is, will ShipStation allow you print the occasional
ad-hoc label that isn't specifically tied to a PayPal payment ? I'm aware
that ShipStation has subscription plans, so I'm not sure where the dividing
line is. People who accept Stripe might have to use PS.

There is still a link to ship one off lables, but I haven't tried that yet.

I'm just ticked off that they have increased their fees but lowered their
service. If I could get away with Stipe only, I would kick PayPal to the curb
in a heartbeat!

I'd like to hear from someone who has tried it. While I don't currently
use Stripe, I (rarely) need a second label for an order.

What PayPal feature is keeping you ? Stripe is pure cards, are you needing PP
for folks with existing balances ?

FOMO on a sale, especially with the busy season starting. I've invested substantially
in my inventory just for the holidays. I feel like the more payment options I
can offer my customers, the better for them and for the store.

I may test "Stripe only" for a week and see if my sale volume changes significantly.
If not, goodby PayPal.

Wasn't it stripe where a ton of users where getting their accounts locked
because you aren't allowed to sell LEGO? Has something changed? Do we qualify
now that LEGO owns this site?

I've been away for a while, I'm catching up.

Yes, it is free but not nearly as feature rich. You can't but extra insurance
and it doesn't have other potential useful features.

IMO, Pirate ship is awesome and that's only from using it one day.

As of this morning I still have the old PayPal page. There is still an obnoxious
banner at the top warning that ShipStation is coming in June--it was starting
to feel like an idle threat, but now I am starting to worry.

As far as I know my account is not a business account. Hopefully that is what
is granting some of us a reprieve. My condolences to the rest of you.

I decided to bite the bullet a while ago and started using shipstation.com directly
instead of going through PayPal. It isn't necessary to add dimensions on
every package and I can preset shortcuts to select the different types of packages.
It took me a bit to get used to it, but the idea that my employees could access
the labels without having to open my business PayPal account won me over pretty
quickly. The fact that I'm able to take an afternoon off and not worry about
the orders getting shipped out was the deciding factor.

I looked at Pirate Ship, but decided to give ShipStation a try first. Now that
I've almost completed my shipping manual for my employees I don't think
I could handle changing again.
