USPS is about to implement a 'time limited' (Oct 3 - Dec 25) rate increase.

That is one week away.

Temporary rates are described in Notice 123. PDF link is here ...

Grrrrrrrr... Thanks for the update though, Nita!

Heres the USPS news article if anyone wants to read it:

Thank you for posting this information and bringing it to our attention. The
current/previous price breaks for FCPS (First Class Package Service) were in
4 oz increments (0-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-15.99). The new chart for FCPS shows breaks
in 5 oz increments (0-5, 6-10, 11-15, 15.99 by itself). Does anyone know if
that change will be permanent and/or has already occurred?

I don't see what you see. The price increments are still 4 oz. But there
are lines in the table every 5 oz.

Ah, thank you for pointing that out. I saw the lines in the table at 5 oz. breaks
and wrongly assumed (without studying the numbers) that those were new rate divisions.

Wonder if "temporary" is going to be the new permanent? Call me a cynic.

I think of it more as 'surge pricing' for the holiday peak shipping period.
Last year (for many reasons) the peak shipping was so bad, that I shut down a
week earlier than normal, and 5 orders were still not delivered by Dec 25th.

There are rumors afoot, about some other shipping service being strategically
positioned on Oct 3rd, but nothing about whom. My Guess is FedEx Ground, but
I want to see the rate card first.

Just realized that putting another carrier in the mix might make things weird
with APO/FPO orders - unless it's something like FedEx SmartPost which utilizes
USPS for final delivery

Ugh. Thanks for the heads up

Since 2015 I usually would close 2 weeks before xmas (ebay, before here)...Last
year I didn't ( IIRC I took sets down to reduce "gift" purchases) and it
worked out. Was going to try again this year but I guess I'll have to consider
doing the 2 week close again. Oh well.

You suspect correctly, Cynic.

The last couple years when they did this, it never went down. It just continued
through to January when they always raise the rates anyway.

I don't think I raised MY rates last January, but I'll need to either
October or January this time.
