What got me on the new Bricklink Survey was the "What else can we do to improve
Bricklink" question. If LEGO really wants to help everyone involved (consumers,
sellers, and themself) they should really do something to promote Bricklink.
The most they have done is the BL Designer Program and even that was not promoted
anywhere except for the homepage of Bricklink. They have a massive fanbase but
never (at least from what I know) have even mentioned Bricklink in an advertisement,
Twitter/Instagram post, etc. They should at least do something... Offer a promotion
to new Bricklink members, VIP Points, a discount code, SOMETHING to promote BL.
It's not like it would only benefit sellers either... Sellers would be happy
for more business, buyers would be happy to have access to retired or rare parts/sets/minifigs
that LEGO doesn't sell anymore, and LEGO would be happy to be getting more
business. Sellers would be paying LEGO for every sale in the fees, PLUS it would
give them (LEGO) data on what people purchase, and most of all, it draws attention
to their brand and the people who help make it what it is. I just don't get
why LEGO has done nothing to bring attention to Bricklink under their ownership.
It's so annoying as a LEGO fan to see no attention brought to this wonderful
website and the wonderful members who have dedicated a part of their life to
this hobby, product, and company.

Rant over, have a great rest of your day.

Discount codes / a VIP point system would be terrible on BL, as it’s individual
sellers.

Central BL discounts could work absolutely fine, in the same way that certain
retailer promotions already work online - at least one of Amazon's methods
of discounting is absorbed by Amazon, not by their supplier, so 10% discount
codes with the cost being eaten by Lego rather than BL sellers could be effective
occasionally.

Whether it's worth it to Lego/BL is another matter of course.

I doubt they'd do 10% off without increasing the fees paid by sellers to
cover the discount. 3% off is essentially voiding the fees paid by the seller
for that order. But is 3% enough to entice people? If someone lists a 5 or 10%
off sale in the forum, I don't bother looking, especially as they set the
base prices.

If lego offered 3% off, but then I came and saw some of the prices charged by
stores, I doubt I'd be incentivized to stay.

I'd prefer they advertised based on what you can get here (as in mainly retired
items), rather than prices.

They send out catalogs to millions of people several times a year and giving
a full page ad to Bricklink in that catalog is not an actual cost. I wish they'd
do that.

+1. Just put in a nice spread on a page or two in there explaining what Bricklink
is and what it offers.

Just playing Devil's advocate here, but perhaps they want to work out all
the "kinks" in this gigantic complex platform first before drawing the world's
attention to it (just to be clear: this is my own reasoning)?

Another thing might be that this a platform consisting of thousands of sellers,
ranging from outright professional to hobby sellers with little to no connection
to TLC.
Over the years I've heard many personal stories from people who wanted to
set up a store selling exclusively Lego and the difficulties they had to go through
to make that happen.

For some part I can understand TLC being careful about how to market their new
property as they have limited control over this plethora of selling practices.
On the other hand there were (and are) a number of vast changes that had to be
implemented due to both European and US tax laws changes.
Thirdly: it's clear to everyone that our platform is running on programming
that was beautifully done by Dan way back then but is now generally considered
"prehistoric". Re-writing the code for this platform is a massive undertaking
that won't be finished in 2021 to say the least.

Lego is a global company and one of the biggest toy producers on this planet.
Let's not forget that Bricklink to them is a "side project". A big side
project, obviously, and taken serious, but not their main concern.
I assume that once this platform is up and running to their standards
marketing will be the next item on the agenda.

That said, I'll ask to add this topic to the agenda for our next Marketplace
Panel meeting.
