That is unusual - I got my order from Little Phoenix less than a week after I
placed it (and I did receive every single thing that I had ordered). Sometimes
you just never know when (or where) the post office will send packages. I've
had that problem with eBay a number of times, but so far, not with BrickLink,
and I hope it stays that way with any future BrickLink orders.

Thank you! And thank God this is only an extreme case, 99.9% of our package is
on time.

Trust to be reliable?

Maybe go with the sentiment behind that Russian proverb Reagan took a shine to
"Trust, but verify (Doveryai, no proveryai)"

Trust, but insure with USPS

* at least for high-value packages during holiday season

The problem is - no way to verify! And insurance on every package may not be
the best solution, maybe trust and pray

Not what I said "high-value packages during holiday season"

Myself, I've never taken out insurance for any package I've shipped,
and I've had some very high value packages go out, in the many thousands
of dollars. I have my reasons for not using insurance for such, that I won't
go into here.

With insurance, there's no need for "trust" as you termed it.

I think shipping insurance is one of the biggest scams around. Literally the
only thing you are paying them to do is to transport your package from point
A to point B. If that doesn't happen how are they allowed to just tell you
"Oh well, you should have bought insurance"? They don't even have to return
the shipping cost if your un-insured package is lost, let alone the valuation
of the contents. In no other paid service that I am aware of are you allowed
to not fulfill your commitment and still keep payment. Completely baffles me.

I agree, Pete. Wholeheartedly.

At the same time, not all think or feel as we do. There are folks out there (as
commonly expressed in the forum) that worry overly when letting-go of a package
to be shipped. If spending a few bucks on something that mitigates their need
to worry for those days/weeks of package-travel, then I say it’s money well spent.

Just don’t coerce the buyer into paying for it, is my position.

Paying an airline $25 to check your bag doesn't guarantee it will arrive,
and they don't give you back the $25 even if your bag is three weeks late
or accidentally incinerated. I was once next in line behind a very angry person
asking the baggage desk person to find her business presentation materials that
the airline had lost despite her paying some $$$ fee for priority or high-value
handling or something. The baggage desk guy just shrugged.

The problem is - no way to verify!

*sorry, forgot to address your first line here*

The "sentiment behind" that proverb, Andy

Though it's obvious, the inability to actually "verify" or entirely "trust"
for that matter, you can insure, mitigating your need to do either.

I saw the same thing happen last holiday season. Shipped a package from Florida
to Maryland, and it went via the Los Angeles scenic route.

My hunch is that USPS did that, to avoid some congested facility in between.

That's even crazier!

We also refunded one after 3 weeks no show, then it delivered.

Did you file a missing package search request through the usps website? It only
takes a minute to do. And usually gets the package found very quickly. Just some
advice if you have never done that before.

We did, and got an email "The US Postal Service® received the search request
you submitted and it's being processed. Your package has not yet been recovered,
but every effort is being made to locate your item(s)." before they found it

Just got another message about tracking # "Hi, you are located in VA and I'm
in FL. Can't you please verify the tracking number as this package has just
arrived in California.."

It jogged my memory about this exchange, just for a little laugh. Happy Friday
everyone!

Just as much as usual, which means not much.

But this happy ending story should serve as a reminder for us to never say never!
