| Hi,
I am new to Bricklink and I have just placed my first order. I was wondering,
how long can you keep an order open until you change the status to "Complete"?
I assume that I will not be able to verify that I have received all the parts
until I start building the set. And I can be a very slow builder.

A buyer is not required to ever change the order status to "Complete". It is
courtesy (but not required) to change the order status to "Received" once you
have the package in your hands, then to "Complete" once the inventory of the
order is verified.

Also it is advisable and fair to your seller to check the contents of an order
ASAP after receiving it. It is not good to claim for any missing or damaged parts
maybe months later after the order has been in your hands.

| Perhaps you know and perhaps not, but you are able to verify the order/set via
Bricklink inventory. This way you do not need to wait untill you have completed
your build.
Would that help?

| I assume that the Bricklink inventory is the parts list that I uploaded and is
in my Wanted List?
I understand the courtesy of checking all the parts just after you have received
a shipment. But that could be a pretty tedious process for sets that contain
thousands of pieces?

You are correct that inventorying an order for a set that has a large piece count
could take some time. If you had an order of that size with me, a week or two...maybe
three would be ok with me if there was a problem, but my expectation would be
that you were verifying the set via the BL inventory, not building the set itself.
If the set is new and sealed, obviously the verification is much simpler, but
if it is used and just in zip lock bags, you would be better to verify the parts
against your order and the set inventory, then you can take as long as you want
to build the set. That is the general courtesy that most seller expect.
