I just received a second email from PayPal about the transition to ShipStation.
But something about that email bothered me. It was like there's something
here that isn't being said. What they do tell you is, how to connect ShipStation
to PayPal. But nothing is mentioned about ShipStation being free for PayPal users
(like Pitney Bowes has been).

So I went looking for a ShipStation web site, and I found one ...
https://www.shipstation.com/pricing/

So plan on paying now for package labels. The people shipping lots of low value
orders are going to be hit the hardest. For those using Pirate Ship ? I expect
there will be a mass exodus of PayPal/Pitney Bowes users. The Pirate Ship servers
may get overwhelmed, or Pirate Ship may begin charging per month like ShipStation
is doing.

We live in interesting times.

My PayPal says nothing will be required on my part.

Paypal should foot the bill seeing as their gonna charge an extra $0.19 per transaction
now.

I read it and I'm still not sure what's going on. I'm not paying
for a shipping service. If I have to take every package to the post office myself
then that's what I'll do, but paypal's nickel and dimeing BS is too
much for this small business owner.

OK, do that. But the counter at the post office is going to charge you retail
rates, not commercial rates. For some packages there is a considerable difference,

When I click the link you have above, the first thing I notice is this is about
Paypal Business accounts. I use a personal account on PP and i have received
no such email from PP about Ship Station. I used to use PP for shipping all the
time, but switched to Pirate Ship where I am very happy. On rare occasions I
use PP for weird addresses or Pirate Ship is down. Maybe the key here is what
kind of PP account you have.

Once upon a time, in the far distant past, PP had 3 account types. There was
a personal, there was a business, and there was something between the two. My
account is, and always has been, the one between the two. It may be no longer
available.

Premiere. I used to have a Premiere account and saw no benefit in upgrading
to Business even when it came to be used primarily for business. But there was
some snag or other a few years ago where something wouldn't work and the
only way to fix it was to pick Personal or Business and I went to Business.

I have a personal account. I have never had a business account with Paypal. I
got the first email about ShipStation on 7/12. I have not received a 2nd.

Thank you

According to PayPal help:

There are no set up or recurring fees for using the MultiOrder Shipping tool.
Customers will only be charged for the price of the label. USPS labels are available
at a price lower than retail price on the PayPal Shipping platform.

We have not been charged any fees from PayPal for using the shipping tools. The
prices are at commercial USPS rates. As far as I can tell this is not changing.

Not everyone uses MOS. I have only used it on rare ocassions. If MOS is the key
here, then I will use it more often.

   USPS labels are available
at a price lower than retail price on the PayPal Shipping platform.

the key phrase is 'lower than retail'. There are two USPS rates that
qualify, Commercial Base and Commercial Plus. PayPal's Pitney Bowes solution
has been serving Commercial Base. There is no Base/Plus for FCPS, just Commercial.
Nowhere have I read anything that says we're going to get Commercial Plus.

We have not been charged any fees from PayPal for using the shipping tools. The

That will be wonderful, but I want to see it actually happen. The previous Pitney
Bowes had no user plans, they dealt directly with large platforms.

One other bit of information since I posted the original post ... ShipStation
is owned by stamps.com, as is Endicia.

I also received an email. I copied and pasted it below. This is for a PayPal
Personal account:

We are making changes to PayPal Shipping that we wanted to notify you of. Starting
July 2021, we will be moving PayPal Shipping to a new platform powered by ShipStation,
a third-party solution that specializes in shipping services.

The new shipping platform allows you to find the best option for each shipment
by comparing rates across a selection of carriers and services.

Additionally, you will continue to have access to all the same features you have
today, including:

• Access to discounts on USPS and UPS labels
• Seller Protection1 coverage on eligible purchases/shipments so that you’re
protected from disputes and claims
• Ability to purchase and print shipping labels for multiple orders (coming soon)

What this means for you:

• You will need to connect your PayPal account to ShipStation the first time
you use the new platform. To start, log onto your PayPal account, select start
a shipping label order, and connect your account with ShipStation. You will need
to select your shipping preferences after you connect to the new platform (your
current settings will not be carried over).
• Your previous shipments and tracking information are still available in your
PayPal account history

I contacted PayPal through the message center and asked:

Want to know if there will be any charges to use shipstation shipping since
it did not say in the email.

and got the following reply back:

Good evening, my name is Sherry. I can certainly help you with this!
Aside from the shipping label cost, there are no extra shipping charges.
Have a wonderful week! Thank you for contacting PayPal and for being a valued
customer. If you have no further questions, you may close the conversation by
selecting End Message or by clicking the "X."

Therefore, it looks like nothing will change except the service provider.

One of the details that is still outstanding is how does the seller pay ShipStation
for the label ? My impression is that it is via a CC. That is because I've
seen people asking ShipStation (on their forum) for PayPal debiting instead of
a CC. I hope the reply you received is correct and concise, and there are no
hidden details. Somewhere I saw a reference to a ShipStation FAQ on PayPal, but
I have been unable to find it.

Maybe it has always been possible to link your ShipStation account to your PayPal,
but it will no longer be necessary when they become the embedded option?
