| Hi,
Quick question. Can orders now outside the EU only be paid with Pay Pal? This
means I am stuck with Pay Pal paying them extra fees, as I could in the past
also except free bank transfers?
If this is the case, then this would be a reason for my to stop shipping to those
countries and sell my Lego to other customers that don't cost me extra fee.
I cannot change the paymend of the order from Pay Pal onsite to bank transfer
anymore (with an order of the UK).
Kind regards,
José

Bricklink can only collect tax with PayPal Onsite.

Or Stripe.
But it’s not “all” your out-of-EU sales, it’s “only” UK and (most of) USA for
now.
(And if you buy from out of EU yourself, for under €150.)

OK, thanks.
For the USA, but also Canadan, Austrialia and Asia Pay Pal was the only option.
It's a pitty that the UK now for the UK Pay Pal is the only option. I wonder
why there is not chosen for the same way the collect tax with the Pay Pal fees,
theni as a seller I am responsible to pay the fees + VAT (no problem for me),
as it is allready been paid by the seller (through Pay Pal or bank transfer).
It would be unfair to charge UK buyers extra, just because due to Bricklink they
cannot pay with a costless bank transfer anymore. Just my 2 cents.
Kind regards,
José

The problem with that is that you are not allowed to collect UK VAT (unless you
register for VAT in UK…) and UK VAT collection (and remittance) is the responsibility
of BL now, as a marketplace (because it was the responsibility of the buyers
but they never did).
So BL needs to be able to make the buyer pay (not you) and directly (not through
you) and to link the payment to the order. And that means PayPal on-site or
Stripe… with their fees.

Or BL gets creative, and gives the seller's the option to remit the
amounts to BL for offsite payments. But that leaves the door(s) open to collusion
between the buyer and seller to avoid required taxes. It's a situation where
PP and Stripe win this round, because BL has not implemented any other method
onsite.
The only fail-safe way, to protect all parties, is for sellers to keep funds
in escrow (to pay taxes), but that negates IC, and forces us back to the bad
old days to NPB.

I don’t think it’s about creativity, I think it’s about legality: the seller
can’t legally charge & collect the tax, even temporarily.
Or it’s just about trust, as it’s BL that’s liable for the tax collection.
