i don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but on more than one occasion
i've sold some elements, knowing they are all of them i had in stock and
listed, then another order comes in for the same part even though i had none
left and had not relisted them.

And two different orders coming in with the same part for all my stock of ..
on both orders, meaning i have to explain to one that the parts are not available.

ive a large amount of stock and don't want to have to recheck it every time
i get an order in.

any help or explanation would be great
Cheers people!

Do you use any 3rd party software? Bricksync, Brickpacker, etc.

Can you track your uploads to help narrow down if this was an error on your side?

I have a few more parts than you and any errors I have found have been due to
my own entry issues.

For example: Once I tracked down an error due to the palace cinema having "extra"
1x2 reddish brown tiles in the inventory but there were no extras in the 5 sets
I parted out.

Are the items being sold from the same lot? Do you have any duplicate lots in
your shop and/or how recently have you checked for them?

When was the second order placed?
Before the first order was picked?

The quantity left on the order details page is showing the remaining quantity
after ALL orders are picked.
So when you have 100 parts, customer 1 buys 90 of them and customer 2 buys 10,
on both the detail pages a X will show on the quantity left.

im in total confusion here, i thought that once a person places the order (checksout)
then the parts should no longer be available or totals are altered automatically
showing whats remaining to be available to purchase, if any.

ive now had it happen again, 3 different orders, three different dates, three
different payments and the part is still showing as full quantity in stock available
to purchase, i've had to manually go into the inventory and delete the items
before someone else buy them

This happened to me a few times in May 2020. I believe it is a bug. Have you
tried contacting the help desk? https://www.bricklink.com/helpDesk.asp?helpDeskID=114

This happens to me in spurts. I wont have it happen for a year, then suddenly
2-5 in a very small amount of time. It seems to be a glitch of some kind. I
don't know what to do except try to make the order happen in any way I can.

I've had the same thing....a number of times and I'm slowly tracking
it down to what I believe to be the issue.

Do you use the part out function to upload sets, because this is where I believe
a lot of the inventory issues stem from? I'm yet to get concrete proof but
I have seen several times BL double the part count on one of the part out screens
for a particular item (at random it seems), only to correct itself if I go back
to the previous screen. I now print out the entire listing once I've applied
prices and remarks... eventually I will get some proof.

It seems to do things on the screen following the one where you enter your price,
remarks etc. Click verify, takes you to another screen, which is basically a
summary of what you are about to upload.

Like I said, I think the part out functionality has some fundamental issues,
which drive the stock inaccuracies. Asking on the FB page, I got several replies
suggesting the same, the issue lies with the PO pages.

Curious to see if this might be the issue. I have seen many people complain about
extra items in their inventory, yet we have never had a problem that hasn't
gone back to human error. We never use the set part out function which may explain
why we don't have this issue if that is where the problem lies.

Agreed, this may be the issue here. I wonder if it has something to do with
site performance and time outs. Like adding a set and it times out while doing
so but it added part of the set when you think it added nothing. Go to part
out the set again and it works this time, and suddenly you have a few lots that
are twice as many as they should be.

I had never really thought about the fact that it could be an issue with the
site part out feature as I no longer use this method either.

Could be. We have never had a stock issue we could not track back to FFS, but
we don't use BL's part out feature. We hardly part out anything, and
if we do, we use our own internal software to do this (in fact, we use our software
and the API to handle every inventory change).

There definitely could be a problem with the part out function, but I've
experienced this issue even with lots that did not come from parted out sets.

To anyone who has this problem and also runs a store on BrickOwl: BrickOwl has
a history of each lot. This allows you to see (fairly) exactly what happened.
Unfortunately it's another one of those things missing on BL.
