| hello, In general is it more profitable to sell whole sets or to part them out?
can you share your experience on this subjet please? I am buying some new sets
and wonder what is the most profitable way to sell the Lego.
thank you

| The two main philosophies are the following:
- Sell new sets: requires less work, less storage, generates less individual
sales but with a higher price tag so generally more worth your time. Some sets
may never sell.
- Sell parts: requires more work to sort parts, more storage needed for each
individual element (part+color) at a certain level, generates more individual
sales but for smaller amounts, and you're left with with parts no one wants.
The former is recommended for low involvement, the latter is recommended for
a long-term commitment to regularly replenish your depleted inventory to ensure
sales.

| If you have enough inventory to generate lots of orders, then clearly selling
parted out sets is more profitable. All you have to do is click on price guide
to see part out value vs whole set value. Part out is probably better 99% of
the time.

| Whoa, thanks, another page I didn’t any idea existed!
Still, it assumes you sell every single part from the parted out set, which is
unlikely in a short timeframe, so seller beware.

| Usually, I am able to sell 50-75 percent of a new set in 12 months if it's
got lots of good parts.

| Ran the comparison for the 10295 Porsche 911, MSRP is $150 but price guide for
6-month sales average is a whopping $423, even selling just half of this amount
would be a good deal.

| A good rule of thumb is to only part out sets where the price is 50% or less
of the 6 month average part-out value.

| Do you really mean half a tonne? Do you have a tipper truck for this kind of
transaction or is this the result of several smaller transactions? The heaviest
Used LEGO bin I've ever bought on Craigslist was 25 lbs and it was a little
too much for me to sort in one sitting, but it is just a fun hobby for me.
In General, Nubs_Select writes:
| Generally, I take full advantage of the lego website promos and often place multiple
orders and get like 40 copies of some of the promos for free and when you stack
multiple promos on top of 5-10% cashback from lego VIP and up to 3% cashback
from honey I can often get sets with good returns that way but lately I've
been going into used again and since it often has a decent return I buy like
1000lbs and that helps keep inventory up.

Yup indeed it is half a ton most of it has arrived but a couple hundred pounds
is still on the way. I was thinking of posting a picture or 2 in the forums once
I have it sorted.

| I really am curious about how you receive them, are they stored in crates? Barrels?
Where can you even get this huge amount? Is it a business secret?

They've reshipped it one right away, but it was frustrating to me.

| Amazon and Wal-mart often have good deals. For example,
is selling for $15.99 at Amazon at the moment and its part out value is $46.37
- that's nearly 2.9, but more like 2.7 if you have to pay sales taxes.

| Thank you for the example, I'm glad I am not in this hobby to make a profit
because this is the sort of rabbit hole I could easily fall in most likely resulting
in analysis paralysis or disastrous impulse buys.
