| Saw something on fb in a German article about the release of a 1x5 plate, a missing
element from the basic plate system. Can’t find the article again. All I can
find is this on the solid works site, which appears to be the preferred part/element
design suite.

I sort of remember a 1x5 plate from a very early train set. I know there were
5 x x large plates.

Yes. TLG have dabled in 1x5 plates before. This prototype is at least two decades
old
