Don’t know for this set but it has been proved the 5mm part existed before 1989
(I own some ).

Sorry, not sure how this works in here and if I'm reading the inventory history
correctly.
If no one checked before my information could be enough but if there are more
versions seen by users it means TLG again just dropped whatever parts they had
at hand making a mess in that set. In that case I'm not bringing anything
new.

I just double checked the parts and all the sets I got in my box are from this
period (late 90s) and all the parts are 6mm. All sets are complete and there
is no newer parts mixed in. This set is the only one containing it in red color
and I got exactly one piece of that.

I was just answering your remark “in that time only 6mm existed.”
We have had a discussions a few weeks/months ago because one person found parts
marked 4623 with a 5mm arm.  So, first conclusion, the catalogue entries 4623/88072
were wrong, the 6mm/5mm difference and the change of ID weren’t linked.  That
means the entries are now 4623a/4623b.
Also, a few of us checked their collection and we found that parts from the 1980s
with both 6mm and 5mm arms (and marked 4623).
A few change requests were made for sets we were sure of the presence of either
variant.
The other sets (like 6089) were left with the undetermined entry 4623, waiting
for someone to tell us which variant they found.

So, for your request, the admins will check it and, I believe, accept it now
that you have specified you have the set and that there’s no possibility of error.

The reason “the part didn’t exist in that time” is generally not sufficient to
accept a change request, admins want proof you got a set with that variant.
So, next time, I’d advise you to say “my copy came with this variant” or “from
my own collection,” or the last paragraph of your message “I just double checked….”

Now, in a few weeks/months/years, somebody may come and say they found a 5mm
version in their copy of the set, and 4623b will be added as an alternate.

I hope this is clearer now
