For discussion: the additional note
"The top of the heads of the earliest examples of this part had a more squared-off
forehead as shown on the left in the comparison image (image courtesy of chetzler)."
is, in my opinion, not correct.

Earlier versions had a more round forehead (shown on the right), the later examples
(Futuron, Blacktron and later) hat a more squared-off head (shown on the left).

Part No: 3626ap01 Name: Minifigure, Head Standard Grin Pattern - Solid Stud
*
3626ap01 Minifigure, Head Standard Grin Pattern - Solid Stud
Parts: Minifigure, Head

Can you explain as to how you can come to this conclusion?

I have seen only a few minifigs with the squared off heads, and they all have
been in the early sets, not Futuron or Blacktron ones....

Just asking, that's all....

Most (lets say 80%) of my sets (I am the original owner) come from the classic
space era. And most of my minifigs' heads are round. Plus I have a couple
of near-mint Blacktron I sets/minifigs that (most probably) never got mixed up
with any of my other sets. Those minifigs all have a shiny new-looking squared-off
forehead.

Well I know this does not proof anything. Lets not consider this to be a conclusion,
rather an observation that I made. I am looking forward to getting more information
on this!
