I am wasting no time in making your lives marginally better, my friends.

For your convenient reference, we now have a list with links and descriptions
of known part variants which are not distinguished by BrickLink:

https://www.bricklink.com/help.asp?helpID=940

This list is majorly incomplete and I could use some assistance in completing
it. If you're bored and want to gather additional variants not yet shown
on the list, please respond to this message with your list of variants (macro
tags appreciated, but not absolutely necessary).

To save others duplicating work, you might reply first saying you're going
to be working on it.

I uploaded an alternate image at one point, which can be seen in the catalog
entry itself. But this shows the friend legs.
The first one is Dark Blue legs with light flesh print.
The second is light flesh legs joined with dark blue hips.

Many friends legs have this variant. I think this is significant enough to warrant
separate entries (unfortunately). And I believe that all of these now have different
parts numbers molded into them too.

Another thing. Do you think it's time for an Aircraft, Stickered category??

[P=30554]
I'm not sure about this one. The B variant is distinguished, but the regular
number seems to be the one without a hole. Should this simpyl receive a catalog
request to be named "30554A"?

Part No: 3149c01  Name: Hinge Plate 2 x 4
*
3149c01 (Inv) Hinge Plate 2 x 4
Parts: Hinge
The current version is inventoried with a red pivot. There is an alternate version
of this assembly which has a black pivot instead of a red pivot. Considering
that we have now added every variant of the 1x2 brick hinge assemblies, this
would also follow suit to have this.

Part No: 3063 Name: Brick, Round Corner 2 x 2 Macaroni with Stud Notch
*
3063 Brick, Round Corner 2 x 2 Macaroni with Stud Notch
Parts: Brick, Round
This may simply need to be renamed to 3063a

Part No: 4589  Name: Cone 1 x 1
*
4589 Cone 1 x 1
Parts: Cone
This may simply need to be renamed to 4589a

This only has a B variant.

Part No: 3134 Name: Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Cable Holding Cutout
*
3134 Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Cable Holding Cutout

Part No: 30237 Name: Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Clip (Vertical Grip) (Undetermined Type)
*
30237 Brick, Modified 1 x 2 with Clip (Vertical Grip) (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Brick, Modified
This only has a B variant.

Part No: 2339  Name: Arch 1 x 5 x 4 - Continuous Bow
*
2339 Arch 1 x 5 x 4 - Continuous Bow
Parts: Arch
Perhaps more investigation into alternate number 14395

[P=46212]
I think there are recessed and blocked open studs of this part

Part No: 445  Name: Door 1 x 3 x 4 Left
*
445 Door 1 x 3 x 4 Left
Parts: Door
This only has an A variant.

*
446 Door 1 x 3 x 4 Right
Parts: Door
This only has an A variant.

Part No: 801 Name: Door 1 x 3 x 3 Left with Window and Vertical Handle (Undetermined Type)
*
801 Door 1 x 3 x 3 Left with Window and Vertical Handle (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Door, Decorated
Marked for Deletion
This shouod probably be renamed to 801b.

Part No: 802 Name: Door 1 x 3 x 3 Right with Window and Vertical Handle (Undetermined Type)
*
802 Door 1 x 3 x 3 Right with Window and Vertical Handle (Undetermined Type)

Parts: Door
Only A variant.

*
3192 Door 1 x 3 x 3 Right
Parts: Door
Only A variant.

Part No: 3193  Name: Door 1 x 3 x 3 Left
*
3193 Door 1 x 3 x 3 Left
Parts: Door

I've no idea. There really aren't any rules for this except the whim
of whomever is deciding. It would be Aircraft, Decorated, though. I just looked
through this category and there do seem to be quite a few decorated parts. I'll
definitely think about it.

Thank you very much for making these lists. They were much needed because I
don't have time at the moment to dig through the catalog and find all of
them. I'll get the variant lists updated as time allows. Once we've
been working on it for a bit the true size of the issue of part variants will
be more readily apparent.

3933 Wedge, Plate 8 x 4 Wing Left
Parts: Wedge, Plate
A only.

*
966a Vehicle, Trailer Base 4 x 16 x 1, Ramp
Parts: Vehicle, Base
The door part of this I would think should be named something other than 966
so that it does not fall into variant number scheme. 966 seems to be the trailer,
so this should probably have a different part number entirely since it is a different
part.

Probably lots more. But these might be all for now. (Did not check any minifigure
related items for sure)

Here is another I came across that I'm not sure exactly what the state is...

Part No: 53989 Name: Arm Mechanical, Exo-Force / Bionicle, Thin Support
*
53989 Arm Mechanical, Exo-Force / Bionicle, Thin Support
Parts: Minifigure, Body Part

Part No: 98313 Name: Arm Mechanical, Exo-Force / Bionicle, Thick Support
*
98313 Arm Mechanical, Exo-Force / Bionicle, Thick Support
Parts: Minifigure, Body Part

Should 53989 be renamed "thin support"? These even have entirely different catalog
numbers. It would make it definite that it's not an undetermined (as I do
not think the intention is).

This list is majorly incomplete and I could use some assistance in completing

4229 Engine, Strakes, 2 x 2 Thin Top Plate
Parts: Aircraft

Part No: 2547 Name: Shark Body
*
2547 Shark Body
Parts: Animal, Body Part

I would prefer to have an alternate large image showing the variations for all
of these items in our catalog. The shark body is a good example for that.

Part No: 2343 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Goblet
*
2343 Minifigure, Utensil Goblet
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Exists with and without ring at the bottom, as is already described. Looks like
you can already expand the list using info that's already currently in the
catalog? Because I didn't see this one in your list yet.

Part No: 6124 Name: Minifigure, Utensil Magic Wand
*
6124 Minifigure, Utensil Magic Wand
Parts: Minifigure, Utensil

Exists with long and with short handle (picture is long handle, short handle
is the new type).

Part No: 2488 Name: Minifigure, Weapon Whip / Plant Vine
*
2488 Minifigure, Weapon Whip / Plant Vine
Parts: Minifigure, Weapon

How detailed do you want to go? This part exists with closed bottom and more
recently with hole in the bottom.

And of course all 1xX bricks and plates that exist with closed or open bottom
tubes.

As detailed as possible. If there is a variation, however minor, then it should
be on the list. The catalog may not distinguish between certain minor part variations,
but that is what this list is for.

People get frustrated sometimes when a part variant is not accepted into the
catalog, but I don't think many of them realize how disruptive it is to split
catalog listings and how many part variants truly exist. The list will help
all of us, myself included, to grasp a more complete picture of part variations.
