The middle pin was added to the 2-prong connectors in 1981, along with all changes
on train and technic parts that had 2-contact holes before 1981 and got 3 contact
holes after 1981.
The back side on the box shows this wire with connector without middle pin. See
photo attached.

This request seems reasonable to me. One question, though: doesn't the box
show a different motor box than the one currently in the inventory (two holes
vs. three holes)? Shouldn't we add an alternate motor whilst we're at
it?

Would it be this one?

Part No: 73112  Name: Electric, Train 12V Manual Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3
*
73112 Electric, Train 12V Manual Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3
Parts: Electric, Train

It's the only alternate the catalog shows to:

Part No: 70026  Name: Electric, Train 12V Remote Control Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3 (Undetermined Type)
*
70026 Electric, Train 12V Remote Control Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3 (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Electric, Train
Marked for Deletion

Unfortunately, the photo of the first box doesn't show the other side (with
the holes).

Your message shows that the photo of these parts should be better and one need
to add a comparison photo.
This part

Part No: 73112  Name: Electric, Train 12V Manual Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3
*
73112 Electric, Train 12V Manual Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3
Parts: Electric, Train
is a manual control. It means that you need to move your hand and twist the axle
so that the point change the direction of track. (no free lunch) In particular,
it does not have any contact hole.
See first photo for comparison.

We know that the connector with middle pin did not exist in 1980. (otherwise,
how do these connectors without middle pin exist?)
Bot the image on the boxes of supplemental sets have some mistakes, such as:
The connector on the right side and holes on the left side of

Part No: 4707pb01 Name: Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Switch Pattern
*
4707pb01 Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Switch Pattern
Parts: Electric, Train
don't look like the image on the box.

On the back side of the box of 7860, the part

Part No: 70022 Name: Electric, Train 12V 2 x 3 Signal Light Brick with Red and Green Lights
*
70022 Electric, Train 12V 2 x 3 Signal Light Brick with Red and Green Lights
Parts: Electric, Train
have only 2 contact holes. We have never seen this part with two contact holes.
All of them have 3 contact holes.

On the side, the current inventory of 7860 is so bad! The wire is listed as a
separate part. The wires did always come assembled to the connector, such as
the photos of 7863 I just posted.(except for few service packs)
Then the assembled one are listed as counterpart.
The part

Part No: 4707pb02 Name: Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Signal Pattern
*
4707pb02 Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Signal Pattern
Parts: Electric, Train
have two variants. As one can expect from a set released for at least 11 years,
there are many and many variations...

So the part

Part No: 70026  Name: Electric, Train 12V Remote Control Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3 (Undetermined Type)
*
70026 Electric, Train 12V Remote Control Switch Motor 4 x 8 x 1 2/3 (Undetermined Type)
Parts: Electric, Train
Marked for Deletion
is correct. I have few of these and need to check and compare their contact holes.
All of them have three contact holes.
Indeed we will submit requests to split the part

Part No: 4707pb01 Name: Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Switch Pattern
*
4707pb01 Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Switch Pattern
Parts: Electric, Train
and also

Part No: 4707pb03 Name: Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Decoupler Pattern
*
4707pb03 Electric, Train 12V Remote Control 8 x 10 with Decoupler Pattern
Parts: Electric, Train
They do have three differences:
1) they both have three contact holes, but the middle hole of one is deeper so
a connector with middle pin fits in it, but it doesn't go fully into the
other and may fall easily. See the photos 2 and 3 attached:

2) Their interior design are different. The bottoms of the later one work more
smoothly.
3) On can hold the left and right bottoms of the early variant at the same time,
but this is impossible on the later variant. This is a significant difference
in their functionality.

I got my switch with "two" contact holes from a lot of boxes 7863, 7860 and 7859.
The sets were missing most of their parts but instead there were many spare parts
from trains or technic sets before 1980. So we can guess that these sets were
early releases (see the last photo) There were many connector without middle
pin, also the switch had "2" contact holes (the middle one not deep).

I don't know how to submit a request to add an item to the catalog. After
the following request, I have lost all my confidence to do this:
https://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=1078526

I submitted a request and also, wrote this inventory request on the forum. My
request got ignored or rejected; at the same time nobody responded to this post.
Could you give me any help for this? Did I do it incorrectly?

I don't recall the inventory request. Can you direct me to which one that
was?

Take a look at this page:

https://www.bricklink.com/messageTopics.asp?utm_content=subnav

Scroll down to Reference Catalog and look at the sub-section titled Catalog
Requests
.

As of this moment there have been 689 completed requests and 305 discarded requests.
Additionally, 38 requests are still open - no decision has been made yet for
those 38 open requests and yours is one of them (3rd down from top):

https://www.bricklink.com/messageList.asp?ID=24&status=0&v=c&max=100&msgUserType=3

As for whether you did it correctly or not, my only suggestion would be to make
a clearly-stated, specific request when submitting a catalog request in the forum.

  I don't know how to submit a request to add an item to the catalog.

The correct method is the method you used for this item you submitted:
