BL needs to support auto-detection for browser platform (mobile / desktop) as
part of their Mobile Content Strategy. The mobile marketplace is composed of
people who browse from site to site, and do not wish to login just to select
a site mode more suited to their device.

The existing model of BL (even with 2.0) is to register as a member, and then
select your browser display mode. This is very wrong thinking.

Browser display mode should be auto-detected, with a click link somewhere at
the page top (or page bottom) to request the opposite display mode.

Having a server side store setting is ok, as long as there are three values:
auto-detect, always mobile, or always desktop. To make use of that setting requires
logging in, and it has no effect unless you are logged in.

What I am suggesting is very similar to how sites such as eBay, Amazon, and countless
thousands of others currently implement.

We need to remove hurdles to potential buyers, not drag them thru a membership
creation just to get a better display environment. One recent Forum post said
that 40% of their eBay sales are coming from mobile devices.

"Hi WoutR,

Thanks for your message! Technically, we do not support any mobile browsers at
this time. Here is an excerpt from a recent news article we posted regarding
supported browsers:

A browser without support will no longer receive updates or technical support.
A majority of updates are fixes for critical security bugs that keep your data
safe. Using software without these updates is comparable to leaving your front
door unlocked - all it takes is someone curious to try and break in. Please take
a moment to compare and pick the browser you’ll enjoy most at http://browsehappy.com.
If you’ve noticed mobile browsers missing from this list, we would like to reassure
you that the mobile browsers will continue to work. However, we cannot commit
to specific versions until we have finalized our mobile content strategy.

So sorry for the inconvenience! I hope all is well otherwise. "

Google Chrome 50 is listed on browsehappy. But apparently there is a hidden requirement
not to use it on an Android system.

I am using Google Chrome version 51 on Android 6. Since the Chrome update I cannot
log in.
I had no problems using the older, and probably less safe, Chrome 50

Their answer is basically, if you cannot access BrickLink, get a different computer.

Browserhappy says the current FF is 46, meanwhile Mozilla is nagging at me to
D/L 47.

One of the hallmarks of BL was that it supported a deep legacy of browsers. That
was both good & dangerous. If they plan is shutting people out who are not up
to date, that may have a net negative effect on customer participation in the
site.

I am using a computer using Windows Vista, so that will lose much support soon
because several browsers cannot update to the latest versions.

Also, I am using an Android phone, which is not supported yet.
As a result, currently, I cannot respond to wanted list notifications when they
arrive. I have to wait to get home.

In the future, I might lose access altogether until BrickLink cleans up its act.
I cannot be alone in this situation.
